  • Six Years Later... | Dom Reflects on Life
    2026/08/01

It's time for another annual check-in.

For the first time, Distinct & Jovial heads outdoors as Dom takes the podcast on a walk through the beautiful New Forest. It's our first travelling, in-person solo episode and the perfect backdrop for a more reflective conversation.

Continuing a tradition we've now kept for six years, Dom revisits the same annual questions to see how his answers have changed, what life has taught him, and where the next chapter might lead.

Along the way, there are conversations about new hobbies, favourite music, mental health, and the value of taking time to slow down.

    💬 This Week We Discuss

🥾 Walking and why getting outside has become so important

🏄 Paddleboarding and discovering new hobbies

🎸 My Chemical Romance and the music that sticks with us

    💭 The Sixth Year Reflection

    • Revisiting the annual questions
    • How perspectives have changed
    • Lessons from the past year
    • Looking ahead to what's next

🧠 Honest thoughts on mental health, personal growth, and learning to navigate life's ups and downs.

    🎧 The Vibe

A slower-paced, more personal episode than usual.

Recorded while walking through the New Forest, this is an honest conversation about growth, reflection, and appreciating how much can change over the course of a year. There are still plenty of lighter moments along the way, but this episode is all about taking stock, embracing the journey, and recognising that progress isn't always measured by big milestones.

Whether you've been listening since the early days or have only recently discovered the podcast, we hope you'll enjoy joining Dom for this year's reflection.

  • Funniest Amazon Reviews!
    2026/07/01

Everyone has an opinion... but should every opinion come with a five-star rating?

This week, Jerry and Dom dive into the wonderful world of reviews, from the people who leave them to the absolute masterpieces hidden away on Amazon and Google.

Along the way, we also celebrate the little things that make adult life surprisingly exciting and catch up on what we've been up to; including taking on a cycle ride and, naturally, the British weather making an appearance.

    💬 This Week We Discuss

🌦️ Why the weather always ends up becoming a conversation

⭐ Do you actually leave reviews?

    • What deserves a review?
    • Why are some people professional reviewers?
    • The funniest Amazon and Google reviews we've found

    🏆 Blindly Rank

    • Things Worth Being Excited About As An Adult

As always, expect plenty of questionable opinions, plenty of laughs, and several moments where we realise adulthood is far less glamorous than we imagined.

    🎧 The Vibe

A classic Distinct & Jovial episode full of light-hearted conversation, relatable observations, competitive rankings, and the kind of random tangents that somehow make perfect sense.

If you've ever got excited about a parcel arriving, laughed at a one-star review, or found yourself talking about the weather for longer than you'd like to admit... this one's for you.

    2026/06/01

60 episodes. 5 years of podcasts. And somehow we’ve reached the point where we’re questioning whether modern life actually makes any sense.

In this episode, we dive into the things society has collectively accepted… despite all of us secretly knowing they’re completely ridiculous.

    💬 This Week We Discuss

    • Why networking feels painfully fake
    • The bizarre world of LinkedIn posts
    • Small talk and pretending to care about the weather
    • Open offices and why nobody actually likes them
    • Wedding costs becoming financially catastrophic

Along the way there’s the usual chaos, overthinking, strong opinions, and moments where we realise we may just be getting older and more cynical.

But this episode is also a bit special.

    🎉 5 Years of Distinct & Jovial

What started as two friends recording conversations has somehow turned into 60 episodes of debates, nonsense, deep chats, technical difficulties, returning guests, and far too many blindly rankings.

Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or found us recently; thank you for listening, supporting, and putting up with whatever this podcast has become.

    🎧 The Vibe

Classic Distinct & Jovial energy. Relatable frustrations, chaotic observations, and conversations that feel dangerously close to a group chat that should probably stay private.

    If you’ve ever:

    • Pretended to enjoy networking
    • Written a LinkedIn post and hated yourself slightly
    • Survived open office culture
    • Questioned modern adulthood

    …this episode is for you.

  • F1 Predictions, Moon Missions & Blinding Headlights
    2026/05/01

Another week, another mix of structure, chaos, and conversations that go slightly off track.

This episode starts with a bit of book club energy, before quickly moving into F1, space travel, and a surprisingly passionate discussion about modern car headlights.

    💬 What’s Inside?

    📚 Book Club

    • The Courage to Be Disliked
    • Thoughts, takeaways, and whether it actually lands

    🏎️ F1 Predictions & Spring Update

    • Dom’s predictions
    • Early season thoughts and expectations

    🚀 Back to the Moon?

    • The Artemis mission
    • Worthwhile achievement or a complete waste of time?

    🚗 Headlight Rage

    • Why are modern headlights so bright?
    • Is it getting worse or are we just getting old?

    🎮 Quiz Time

    • Inside Out, Lord of the Rings, and more
    • Naming challenges, memory tests, and inevitable struggles

    🎧 The Vibe

A mix of thoughtful discussion and classic Distinct & Jovial randomness. One minute it’s philosophy, the next it’s space exploration, and somehow we end up arguing about headlights.

Easy listening, slightly all over the place, and exactly how we like it.

  • If Ducks had Jobs, Would Gravity Turn Off?
    2026/04/01

    Jerry is back.

After a couple of slightly different episodes, Distinct & Jovial returns to what it does best; light-hearted chaos, ridiculous questions, and strong opinions on things that probably don’t matter.

    💬 What’s Inside?

🎲 Blindly Rank This (With a Twist)

    • Minor inconveniences… but made significantly more stressful
    • Questionable decisions, immediate regret, and zero strategy

    ⚖️ Underrated or Overrated

    • Air fryers
    • Voice notes vs texting
    • Sunday roasts at pubs
    • Working from home
    • Smart homes / Alexa
    • Plus: films, books, and bands

🤯 Poignant Questions (As Always, Slightly Unhinged)

    • If ducks had jobs, what would they do?
    • If gravity turned off for 3 seconds, what’s the worst situation to be in?
    • Would your wardrobe respect you if it was sentient?
    • Which condiment survives a zombie apocalypse?
    • If clapping was invented today… would it catch on?

    🎧 The Vibe

A proper Distinct & Jovial episode. Jerry’s back, the structure is loose at best, and the conversations go exactly where you’d expect… and nowhere near where you planned.

Easy listening, lots of laughs, and a reminder of why this podcast works best when it’s just us chatting nonsense.

  • Becoming a Dad, ADHD, & Redundancy
    2026/03/01

Episode 57 and Hooper is back on the podcast… but once again, no Jerry.

This one turns into a proper catch-up. We talk about what’s changed over the last couple of years, and it turns out quite a lot has happened.

    💬 What’s Inside?

    • Becoming a dad (including the chaos of baby week and life since)
    • The biggest changes in that first year of parenting
    • The best bits… and the brutally exhausting bits
    • ADHD diagnosis and how that reframes past decisions
    • Redundancy, career risks, and landing somewhere better
    • Trying to balance sleep, work and mental health

    🎧 The Vibe

There’s still the usual nonsense, but this one has a bit more reflection in it. Growth, perspective, and the reality of navigating big life changes while pretending you know what you’re doing.

No scripts. No preparation. No Jerry.

Just Hooper and whatever comes out when you press record.

  • Still Showing Up
    2026/02/01

This week, Distinct & Jovial takes a slightly different turn.

Jerry is absolutely fine, but for the first time ever, this episode is a solo one; just Dom behind the mic. Rather than skip a month, it became a chance to slow things down, check in, and talk through what’s been going on.

    💬 What’s Inside?

    • Why this episode ended up being a solo recording
    • Life feeling busy, loud, and a bit overwhelming
    • Thoughts on routine, running, and consistency
    • Reflections on keeping momentum when motivation dips
    • A decent chunk of Formula 1 chat
    • Honest, low-key thoughts rather than big debates

    🎧 The Vibe

Less chaos, more calm; but still very Distinct & Jovial. A reflective episode with some familiar comforts (including F1), recorded simply because sometimes showing up matters more than sticking to the plan.

    Normal service will resume soon.
