    In this new episode of "The AI And You" podcast with David F George, (recorded on 17-10-2023), he discusses threats posed by generative AI disinformation. He explains the difference between misinformation (accidental false information) and disinformation (deliberately deceptive information). David gives us some examples of how generative AI can be misused to create fake but convincing images, videos, voices, reviews etc to spread disinformation. This is discussed in the context of politics, business/marketing, and online retail. He looks at the need to fact-check AI-generated content and not take it at face value and, suggest governments may need to legislate and regulate to curb this threat of disinformation.

  • Types of AI

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing field that involves the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that would normally require a level of human intelligence. AI can be divided into three main categories: Weak AI, Strong AI, and Artificial Superintelligence. Weak AI, or Artificial Narrow Intelligence, is currently in practical use and is limited in its capabilities. Strong AI, or Artificial General Intelligence, is in the process of proving its value and is constrained by the availability of computing power and the cost of training the models necessary for effective performance. Artificial Superintelligence is still theoretical, being an attempt to recreate the human mind in machine form. AI can be further classified based on different levels of complexity and capabilities, such as Reactive Machines, Limited Memory Machines, Theory of Mind, and Self-Aware. AI is being used in many areas today, such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, virtual assistants, image and facial recognition, Chatbots, business process automation and recommender systems. AI can be used as an ‘Assistive Intelligence’ tool to help make us more productive and create more time for us to extend our unique capabilities. However, there is a mismatch between the pace at which we can adapt to the transformational role of AI compared to the pace at which AI technology is evolving and being introduced, and there are potential risks.
