What does it mean to believe in the present work of the Holy Spirit while affirming that the apostolic sign gifts have ceased?
In this episode of the Unashamed Truth Podcast, Grant Castleberry welcomes back Ryan Denton for a conversation on the Holy Spirit, historic Reformed cessationism, and the dangers of both charismatic excess and “hypercessationism.”
Grant and Ryan discuss the Spirit’s work in regeneration, sanctification, prayer, preaching, and the life of the church, while also considering dreams, impressions, providential promptings, and extraordinary experiences throughout church history. Drawing from Scripture and voices such as John Flavel, John Knox, Charles Spurgeon, and Martyn Lloyd-Jones, they ask how Christians can remain open to the Spirit’s work without compromising the sufficiency and final authority of Scripture.
This episode offers a thoughtful Reformed approach to experiencing the work of the Holy Spirit while remaining firmly anchored in the Word of God.
