James Year is a photojournalist, researcher and professor whose work focuses on the collision between trucking, artificial intelligence and automation. A six-year U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a C-130 loadmaster, Year spent more than two years traveling 25,000 miles across 27 states, documenting truck drivers and the rapidly developing autonomous trucking industry. His Syracuse University graduate project, “Stealing Fire: The Collision of Trucking and Artificial Intelligence,” explores how automation could reshape the trucking workforce and American supply chains. He has also followed autonomous trucks in real-world operations, including in Texas, and currently teaches photography in Maryland.
He rejoins the show for a third time to update us since his documentary with More Perfect Union came out. Amassing over 10 million views it has driven the conversation about AI in the supply chain. The tech is advancing quickly, but not always as quickly as it may seem!
