Hey everyone! Jon Marshall here, owner of Suncoast NPI. As I visit chapters throughout Tampa, Clearwater, and Pasco County, I notice a massive difference between groups that just get by and groups that absolutely crush it. The highest-performing groups don’t just have better businesses in the room; they have a completely different atmosphere. They possess an underlying energy that drives everything they do. That secret weapon is culture.
Culture is the feeling people get when they walk into the room. It is how members welcome a visitor, how they speak about one another out in the community, and how they follow through when a referral is placed in their hands. It is the little things done consistently, week after week, that tell every member, “You matter here.”
The best chapters are built by members who understand that networking is about relationships first. They come into the room thinking about how they can help, who they can connect, and what they can learn about the businesses around them. That kind of mindset creates trust. It also creates momentum, because when one member starts looking for opportunities for another member, it has a way of spreading through the whole room.
This is where “Remember a Member” becomes more than a phrase. It becomes a habit. A member hears a neighbor mention a need, and they think of the right person in their chapter. A business owner has a question, and they know exactly which member can be a resource. A client needs support, and instead of guessing, they can make a warm introduction to a trusted professional. That is the power of building a chapter where members truly know each other.
Strong culture also shows up in accountability, but in a healthy chapter, accountability is rooted in respect. Attendance matters because your chapter is counting on your presence. One-to-ones matter because relationships grow when you take time to listen. Referrals matter because they represent trust. Follow-up matters because another member has placed their reputation in your care.
When members are committed to the commitment, the whole chapter feels safer and stronger. People are more comfortable passing referrals because they know the member receiving them will handle the relationship with professionalism. That does not happen by accident. It happens because the chapter has built a culture where high standards are encouraged, supported, and lived out together.
Another piece of a great culture is learning. High-performing chapters do more than exchange business cards or wait for referrals to appear. Members use their one-to-ones to understand each other’s stories, ideal clients, challenges, power partners, and goals. They ask better questions. They listen for real opportunities. They learn how to introduce each other in a way that feels personal and confident.
Over time, this turns a chapter into something much more valuable than a weekly meeting. It becomes a trusted circle of local business owners and professionals who help each other think bigger, serve better, and stay connected to opportunities in the community. You are surrounded by people who want to see you win, and just as important, people you want to help win too.
That kind of culture is a true advantage. Visitors can feel it. Members can feel it. Referral partners can feel it. The meeting becomes more than a place to report what happened during the week. It becomes a place where relationships deepen, ideas are shared, confidence grows, and business is built through service.
Your growth as an entrepreneur relies heavily on the quality of the circle you keep. When you belong to a chapter that protects its culture, values accountability, and looks for ways to help fellow members succeed, your success becomes a shared goal for the entire room.
Until next time, this is Jon Marshall reminding you: when we pull together, we all win!
