Likened to Australia's real-life Jack Sparrow, he encountered samurai and survived to tell the tale, although his account left a trail of confusion that was only confirmed after almost two centuries...
Matt finishes things off with a tale about a thief who found themselves trapped in a tricky situation.

Welcome to episode 111, in which Claire delivers on a request from listener TJ, who suggested delving into the story behind Murdering Gully Road on Table Cape, in Wynyard, Tasmania.
It begins back in 1858, when neighbouring farmers Samuel Oaks and William Bannon were known to be bitter enemies, with much of their disputes centering around wandering pigs.
But when Samuel doesn't return home one night and his wife goes out looking for him at first light she finds just his hat on the road. She goes straight to the local justice of the peace and he soon makes a gruesome discovery...
Suspicion falls immediately on William and while the evidence was circumstantial the jury came to a very quick decision. Hear about the outcome, and more about William's fascinating life starting in Ireland, then New Zealand, Norfolk Island and eventually Van Diemen's Land.
