Clayton shares the story of how their ranch got started and how he, his dad, and his brother are working to build cows that fit the tough New Mexico rangeland. We talk about the breeding decisions behind their cow herd, the importance of culling, how they develop their bulls, and what they expect cattle to do on the range.

We also get into Clayton’s approach to EPDs, his journey into Red Angus genetics, and why they are raising composite Black Baldie bulls.

It’s a good conversation about selecting cattle for the environment they have to work in and continually trying to build a better, more functional cow.

The goal is pretty simple: have good conversations with people in the cattle business and learn more about what goes into building cows that work.
