The Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures, a collection of podcasts dedicated to the stories that shaped our world.

Every episode is a conversation. Aurelius and Malik, curators of The Conflict Archive, take a single war — the Seven Years' War, the English Civil War, the Invasion of Poland, Afghanistan 2001-2021 — and follow it from the first grievance to the terms of the peace. One lays out how it was fought and decided: the alliance that held, the supply line that didn't, the choice that only looks obvious afterwards. The other presses on what the campaign map leaves out — who was conscripted, what the victory actually settled, and what it merely postponed.

These are not summaries. Each episode is one complete war, examined from both sides in a single sitting.

  • Expedition of the Thousand
    2026/09/02
Imagine a kingdom where the rich feast under chandeliers, while outside, smoke rises from torched farms and the poor plot in the shadows. A thousand dreams collide on the streets of Italy, each heartbeat a drumbeat of revolt. The storm is coming, and nothing can hold it back.In the spring of eighteen sixty, Europe trembles with anxiety. Old monarchies struggle to hold together, battered by years of unrest. In Italy, the hope of unification hangs in the air like lightning before a thunderstorm. The country is a jigsaw of kingdoms and duchies. The most fragile? The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, ruled by King Francis the Second. From his palace in Naples, Francis tries to command a realm full of poverty, corruption, and deep resentment. Southern peasants toil in mud and sweat. In the cities, whispers of liberty pass from ear to ear, growing louder with every injustice.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 34 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/expedition-of-the-thousand

  • Angolan Civil War
    2026/09/01
Picture Luanda in nineteen seventy-five. The city is restless, the air thick with uncertainty and the scent of smoke. On every wall, graffiti shouts for freedom or vengeance. In the shadows, men watch and wait, knowing that any moment could bring chaos.Angola teeters between hope and dread. Independence is coming, but so is something darker. The last days of Portuguese rule bring fear, suspicion, and a city poised on the edge of war. The old colonial order is crumbling, and three rival movements—MPLA, UNITA, and FNLA—circle each other like predators. Each believes only they can shape Angola’s future.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 34 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/angolan-civil-war

  • Fall of Constantinople
    2026/08/31
Imagine standing atop ancient walls as dusk falls, the city behind you silent and tense, the horizon beyond flickering with the orange glow of enemy campfires. The air is thick with woodsmoke and salt. You sense something monumental is about to break—a world teetering on the edge of destruction.Constantinople, once the crown of Christendom, now stands isolated and diminished. Its golden domes are faded, its mighty walls battered. By the mid-fifteenth century, the Byzantine Empire has shrunk to little more than the city itself, a lonely outpost surrounded by the growing might of the Ottoman Turks. The population has dropped from hundreds of thousands to maybe fifty thousand. Streets are hollow, houses patched with scraps, and fear hangs heavy in every alley. Each church bell tolls like an omen.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 31 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/fall-of-constantinople
