During the show, we delve into the intricate relationship between technology and the human brain. Mark, sheds new light on the detrimental effects technology, particularly on our creative faculties. (He suggests a couple of powerful and practical solutions: disconnect from notifications and immerse ourselves in activities that ignite different regions of our brain)s.

Mark is an internationally recognised Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, with over 25 years of experience conducting behavioural and brain imaging research, focusing on our social skills.

  • S6E86: Episode 86: Kristi Herold: The Creative Play
    2023/08/28

Is play something to be reserved for the safety of home or ring fenced as something that’s only for the kids?

In this week's conversation, Kristi Herold, author of “It Pays to Play” and the CEO of JAM we learn that there’s a reason we should all embrace play as a fuel for business and also creativity.

As Kristi explains, even simple playful structures such as a company sports team or a ‘shout out slack channel’ help people to get to know each other as people (perish the thought!) and build a relationship of trust. This in turn paves the way for people to collaborate and create.

It means that businesses that embrace playfulness achieve improved retention, creativity and engagement.

Kristi’s business “JAM” employs over 40 staff worldwide and has orchestrated over 3500 corporate team-building events spanning across 30 diverse countries since its inception in 2020. Kristi herself has been recognised in the Top 100 Canada’s Most Powerful Women and as a top three finalist in the Canadian Women Entrepreneur awards. She has earned multiple Great Places to Work certifications and is a Governor General’s “Queen’s Diamond Jubilee” recipient.

Tune in to find out about harnessing the power of play in your own work place!
