概要
The Coat That Shouldn't Fit: A Boy, Wilderness, and a Missing Peg

A twelve-year-old boy found half-buried in a drainage ditch at 6:06 a.m. in 19-degree air was wearing a dark olive green adult coat stamped "R. BARRETT" - a coat that the owner later said hung on a different peg in the barn. How did a coat from a known peg rack end up on a child miles from the house, with the original peg empty and the closet coat already in place?

In this episode, we present the sequence of events from the afternoon Tyler Barrett left the school bus to the morning Sandra Wagner called 9-1-1, and the perplexing discovery that forced investigators to ask whether the coat belonged on the peg or on the boy.

Person: Tyler Barrett
Date: November 13-14, 2011
Location: Elk Hollow Road / Sycamore Loop, Garfield County, Montana
Status: Found alive in drainage ditch; transported to hospital
Event: Missing child in wilderness for ~14 hours

- Tyler was 12 years old and in seventh grade when he left the bus at approximately 3:40 p.m, on November 13, 2011.
- Sandra Wagner called 9-1-1 at 6:06 a.m. on November 14 after finding Tyler in a ditch and stayed on the line for 11 minutes.
- The temperature that night fell to 11 degrees Fahrenheit by midnight, and the body showed steam rising in 19-degree air at discovery.
- The barn peg rack had three pegs: peg one with leather gloves, peg two with a wool cap, and peg three empty when Deputy Frank Adler inspected it.
- A coat described as adult men's large, dark olive green canvas with "R. BARRETT" written inside was on Tyler when found, while another coat with sleeves unrolled and the collar inward was hanging in the house closet less than three minutes after Ralph checked.
