Before Twitch, before esports, before YouTube gaming… there was Video Power. In this video, I break down the full story of Video Power one of the most unique and forgotten gaming shows from the early 90s. A lot of people remember it as a game show where kids competed playing video games… but that’s not how it started. The show originally began as a cartoon-based format featuring Johnny Arcade and the Power Team, mixing animation with game tips and early gaming culture. But when that version didn’t hit the way producers expected, everything changed. Video Power was completely reworked into a full-on game show where kids competed in challenges, played NES games on stage, and had the chance to win prizes in one of the most memorable final rounds in TV history. In this video, I go over:• How Video Power originally started• Why the show completely changed formats• The transition into a competitive game show• The iconic final challenge• And why the show disappeared after only a few yearsThis show was ahead of its time and feels like an early version of what gaming content has become today. If you grew up in the 90s, this was every kid’s dream.
