  • Carla and Crappy Show: The Mandatory Attendance Edition
    2025/11/20
As the college football regular season begins to wind down, it’s tempting to look ahead to the ridiculously amazing uniforms for the Army-Navy Game, the six (SIX!) edible mascots for the Pop-Tarts Bowl, and what is bound to be chaos in the coaching carousel. But not yet, friends. We still have work to do. Because in Week 13, the Carla and Crappy Show will once again be sitting in as the celebrity guest picker for Blue Raider Extra Point on Saturday morning. And, according to Crappy and AJ, attendance is mandatory. We begin, as always, with a look back at a weekend of wild finishes and big statements, which may have resulted in a new addition to the CnCShow lingo – Universal Reverse Clemsoning. Because, yeah. Friday night in Louisville was crazy. A close second might be Texas A&M’s second-half escape from South Carolina. Pitt definitely wasn’t it against Notre Dame. And Oklahoma may have made the biggest statement of the weekend at Bryant-Denny. Oh, and we learned that Brent Fry can be very angry after a win, and that college football can absolutely tug at the heartstrings. (Thanks for your passion, Shane Hanafin.) And then, Carla calls a production meeting to prepare for her appearance on BREP at 11:30 ET Saturday. You can tune in to watch live on the Middle Tennessee Sports YouTube channel. How did we pick these games? You’ll have to watch Saturday to find out! Also, for the final time this season, Jake Rose is on the call for the MTSU game, so be sure to add that one to your afternoon quad box. Missouri State at Kennesaw State (2 ET, ESPN+) Liberty at Louisiana Tech (3 ET, ESPN+) New Mexico State at UTEP (3 ET, ESPN+) Jacksonville State at FIU (3:30 ET, CBSSN) Sam Houston at MTSU (3 ET, ESPN+) AJ then picks things up with his #GroupOfFiveAfterDark report, which, as always, includes heavy mentions of Hawaii. Florida State at NC State (8 ET Friday, ESPN): Just … noting this. For reasons. Hawaii at UNLV (10:30 ET Friday, FS1): C’mon, Bows. Don’t let us down. Washington State at James Madison (1 ET, ESPN+): Still an outside chance of getting Jimmy to the CFP? Mercer at Auburn (2 ET, SECN+): Umm, Mercer is 9-1. Just a heads up on that. Marshall at App State (2:30 ET, ESPN+): We’re divided on this one. East Carolina at UTSA (3:30 ET, ESPN+): Meep, meep? Maybe? Also, Pirate’s Booty is delicious. Cal at Stanford (7:30 ET, ACCN): A classic ACC rivalry. Heh. Western Kentucky at LSU (7:45 ET, SECN): Can Western cover? We think so. Washington at UCLA (10:30 ET, NBC): Nico’s status is unknown. Utah State at Fresno State (10:30 ET, CBSSN): Eyeballs here if you’re interested in the Mountain West conference race. San Jose State at San Diego State (10:30 ET, FS1): We need an SDSU loss, but this likely isn’t it. Next up is the Big 12 Buffet, which is yet again as delicious as ever. Kansas at Iowa State (Noon ET, FS1): Cyclones, only because they’re playing at home. Baylor at Arizona (1 ET, TNT): Wildcats play good defense. Kansas State at No. 12 Utah (4 ET, ESPN2): Utes. TCU at Houston (4 ET, FOX): Buffet pick of the week. Oklahoma State at UCF (4 ET, ESPN+): UCF. Arizona State at Colorado (8 ET, ESPN2): Buffs are improving, but not enough for a win here. No. 11 BYU at Cincinnati (8 ET, FOX): This week’s main course is especially tasty as a QB named Bear plays the Bearcats. We’re divided on this one, too. And finally, the Big Boy Games. We’ve only got one ranked-on-ranked matchup, but boy, are all of these games important. (Well, maybe except for that last one. That’s just for giggles.) Missouri at No. 8 Oklahoma (Noon ET, ABC): Is this a letdown game for the Sooners? The possibility would be there … if Missouri wasn’t on its backup QB. Oklahoma’s defense is legit, and they get to close out the season at home. Louisville at SMU (Noon ET, ESPN2): How does Louisville respond after last week’s debacle against Clemson? SMU is still a contender in what is an exceptionally messy ACC title game race. No. 15 USC at No. 7 Oregon (3:30 ET, CBS): USC is showing that it has some mettle, pulling out a sloppy win over Iowa in the Coliseum last weekend. Now they head to Oregon, a team that, yes, could still be in the mix for a second-straight Big Ten title berth. The Ducks defend the pass well, which could spell trouble for Jayden Maiava and crew. Pitt at No. 16 Georgia Tech (7 ET, ESPN): Let’s see how serious Pat Narduzzi was about focusing on ACC games, huh? This one’s critical for both of these teams, and we’re fairly certain that Georgia Tech did not have a fun week of practice after last weekend’s edging of Boston College. No. 20 Tennessee at Florida (7:30 ET, ABC): Florida is 17-3 in the past 20 years against Tennessee, and the Vols host Vandy next weekend. How dumb will this game be this year? (Spoiler alert: We think real dumb. Go Gators.) In addition to honorable mention nods to the six edible Pop-Tarts Bowl mascots and the ridiculously good ...

  • Carla and Crappy Show: The We Have to Talk About Pitt Edition
    2025/11/13
It’s Week 12 of the college football season, friends, and we have a confession to make. Despite being a Pittsburgh-centric podcast, we don’t often talk about Pitt football. But this week? We have to talk about Pitt football. Prepare your kids accordingly. Before we get to that important conversation, though, we look back at what ended up being a weekend of season-defining drives. Four teams had them, but only two of those teams ultimately won their games. Also, the weather was horrible in Iowa City, and Hawaii beat the brakes off of San Diego State (making AJ exceptionally happy). And, hey, no one got fired this week! Then, we head into an intriguing slate of games, starting with the #GroupOfFiveAfterDark, which absolutely requires caffeination. Sorry, friends. It’s gonna be a late night. No. 24 USF at Navy (Noon ET, ESPN2): Are the Bulls legit playoff contenders? Memphis at East Carolina (4 ET, ESPNU): Can the Tigers stay in the American race? Delaware at Sam Houston (7 ET, ESPN+): Thanks to their win over Oregon State last week, we can get Sam Houston a transitive win over Alabama. Fun! Louisiana Tech at Washington State (10 ET, CW): Just because. TCU at No. 12 BYU (10:15 ET, ESPN): The Buffet is definitely open this week. Is this the start of BYU’s free fall? We’re not so sure. Boise State at San Diego State (10:30 ET, CBSSN): Hawaii needs Boise to win this game. So, go Broncos! Wyoming at Fresno State (10:30 ET, FS1): Fresno’s been super inconsistent this season. Then, we review this week’s Big 12 Buffet menu, which is as tasty as ever. Five stars, no notes. Arizona at No. 25 Cincinnati (Noon ET, FS1): Trap game for Cincy? Arizona’s not been great away from home, though. Kansas State at Oklahoma State (Noon ET, ESPNU): Powercats. West Virginia at Arizona State (1 ET, TNT): What do we make of the Mountaineers this season? We’re not sure. UCF at No. 6 Texas Tech (3:30 ET, FOX): Happy Scott Frost Day! Also, Red Raiders. No. 13 Utah at Baylor (7 ET, ESPN2): Weird things can happen in Waco. But we like the Utes. Before we get to the Big Boy slate, we take a moment to celebrate two fantastic trophy games this weekend: Arkansas at LSU (12:45 ET, SECN): The Battle for the Boot never disappoints. (Unless you’re Arkansas.) Penn State at Michigan State (3:30 ET, CBS): Welcome back, Land Grant Trophy. Oh, how we’ve missed you. Also, Penn State needs a win here to hang in the hunt for bowl eligibility. Finally, we put the bowl of strawberry candies aside and get to the games at hand. Lots of intrigue here. Clemson at No. 20 Louisville (7:30 ET Friday, ESPN): Why do we have this game on our radar? We’re not sure, but our spidey senses are raised. The Cards laid an egg last week in overtime against Cal. Can the Tigers get back to .500 on the road? No. 9 Notre Dame at No. 22 Pitt (Noon ET, ABC): Pitt football is in the national spotlight with the full-on GameDay treatment. But here’s the thing: This game is actually meaningless, other than reputation. (Pitt’s real tests are the next two weeks.) How will the Panthers handle the attention? And can that Pitt defense slow down Jeremiyah Love? No. 18 Michigan vs. Northwestern (Big Nude, FOX): This game’s at Wrigley. It would be super fun for the Wildcats to earn bowl eligibility here, but we’re not optimistic. No. 11 Oklahoma at No. 4 Alabama (3:30 ET, ABC): Bama is legit good. Is Oklahoma? We think so, but things haven’t been quite the same since John Mateer’s injury. A loss for the Sooners likely eliminates them from playoff contention, though. No. 19 Virginia at Duke (3:30 ET, ESPN2): A huge question mark here is the status of Chandler Morris. Both of these teams are fighting for a spot in the ACC title game. No. 21 Iowa at No. 17 USC (3:30 ET, BTN): We were almost all-in on USC … and then we discovered that there’s rain in the forecast for Saturday night. Hammer the under. Go Hawkeyes. No. 10 Texas at No. 5 Georgia (7:30 ET, ABC): AJ explains why we may have Diego Pavia to thank for Arch’s surge as a QB in the late season. Also, it’s really fun to root against Kirby Smart. A Horns win here would send the SEC into chaos, so you know what we’re rooting for. If that’s not enough football for you, we have an overloaded slate of honorable mentions: Robert Morris at Mercyhurst (Noon ET, NEC Front Row): Bob heads to Erie! Indiana State at FCS No. 20 Youngstown State (Noon ET, ESPN+): Sycamores versus Penguins! Carnegie Mellon at Ursinus (Noon ET, Centennial Conference TV): Tartans need a win … and likely some help to get to the DIII playoffs. FCS No. 14 Illinois State at FCS No. 16 South Dakota State (3 ET, ESPN+): SDSU is on a three-game slide. When was the last time that happened? MTSU at Western Kentucky (3:30 ET, ESPN+): Time for 100 Miles of Hate! UCLA at No. 1 Ohio State (7:30 ET, NBC): Buckeyes are favored by more than 30 points. Kennesaw State at Jacksonville State (8 ET, ESPNU): Top two ...

  • Carla and Crappy Show: The Exceedingly Distracted Edition
    2025/11/06
Ohio University has an official spray tan sponsor. We thought Wisconsin led the nation in stadium beer sales. (A correction was issued the day after we recorded this episode, and it’s actually Nebraska. Also not surprising.) Oh, and Highland Cows are soft. And those, friends, are just the first of what is a show full of crucial college football insights as we’re all incredibly distracted in Week 11. Welcome to the Carla and Crappy Show. (It’s not quite as good as syncing Dark Side of the Moon to the Wizard of Oz, but this episode is kind of timestamped if you want to sync it to a recording of the Miami-Ohio MACtion game from Tuesday night.) We begin by attempting to review last weekend, which included a furious attempt at a comeback by the Dores in Austin, Georgia’s near-miss against Florida, and Crappy’s stellar intuition telling us to pay attention to both NC State and SMU. Also, AJ once again has us in our math era, as we try to figure out how to get Pitt and Vandy to their respective conference title games. We also take a quick spin on the coaching carousel and bid good riddance to Hugh Freeze, although we are very disappointed that Diego didn’t get to finish him off. And then, finally, we get into the games, starting with AJ’s #GroupOfFiveAfterDark report: Northwestern at No. 19 USC (9 ET Friday, FOX): Eh? James Madison at Marshall (Noon ET, ESPN2): The Dukes are good, friends. Southern Miss at Arkansas State (Noon ET, ESPNU): A Southern Miss/JMU Sun Belt title game? Perhaps. Duke at UConn (3:30 ET, CBSSN) and Kansas at Arizona (3:30 ET, ESPN2): Is this basketball season? Because this would be a very chalk Final Four. Air Force at San Jose State (6 ET, FS1): Lots of offense. Very little pass defense. Ironic? Yes. Nebraska at UCLA (9 ET, FOX): We’re sad that Dylan Raiola is done for the year. UNLV at Colorado State (9:30 ET, FS1): Just because. Sam Houston at Oregon State (10 ET, CW): Beavs win three in a row!? San Diego State at Hawaii (11 ET, MW App): Legit could be one of the best games of the weekend. Caffeinate, friends. Also, go Bows. The Big 12 Buffet menu is a tad lighter than usual, mostly because the main course is a really big main course (and we stole it for the Big Boy slate): Houston at UCF (8 ET Friday, FS1): Not sure why this line is so close, or why ESPN metrics predict a UCF win. Curious. Colorado at West Virginia (Noon ET, TNT): Buffs are in FAFO mode with their own roster. Iowa State at TCU (3:30 ET, FOX): Cyclones are on a 4-game skid. Speaking of that Big Boy slate … Tulane at Memphis (9 ET Friday, ESPN): Call this the Middle School game in the Big Boy slate, but this is a legit good game. Get your eyeballs here on Friday night. Unless you have YouTubeTV. Then, well … do what you can. No. 7 BYU at No. 8 Texas Tech (Noon ET, ABC): The main entree of this week’s Big 12 Buffet is well deserving of a promotion to the Big Boy menu. Texas Tech’s defense is scary good. BYU … doesn’t know what it doesn’t know, perhaps? No. 3 Texas A&M at No. 22 Missouri (3:30 ET, ABC): Could be a tricky one for the Aggies, thanks to a stout Tiger defense, but no Beau for Mizzou is likely the difference here. No. 9 Oregon at No. 20 Iowa (3:30 ET, CBS): The Ducks … ain’t played nobody, other than Indiana, and we all saw how that went. While it’s not full-on scary nighttime Kinnick, it will be dark by the end of this one. Can Iowa pull off the upset at home? Auburn at No. 16 Vanderbilt (4 ET, SECN): We’re not sure Diego’s gonna care that Freeze isn’t on the sideline. LSU at No. 4 Alabama (7:30 ET, ABC): The chaos at LSU has been entertaining for the rest of us, but how will it translate on the field? A Tiger win here would be hilarious … but not likely. Bama is actually good again. (Sigh.) Our honorable mention nods this week go to: No. 2 Indiana at Penn State (Big Nude, FOX): Sigh. Wagner at Robert Morris (Noon ET, ESPN+): Bob goes for consecutive wins. Williams at Amherst (Noon ET, Northeast Sports Network): The Biggest Little Game. Go Ephs! Franklin & Marshall at Carnegie Mellon (Noon ET, Centennial Conference TV): It’s homecoming for the Tartans. No. 1 Ohio State at Purdue (1 ET, BTN): Crappy’s having unhappy flashbacks. FIU at MTSU (3 ET, ESPN+): Welcome back, Jake Rose! South Dakota State at South Dakota (4 ET, ESPNU): Nationally televised FCS football! Also, corn? Navy at No. 10 Notre Dame (7:30 ET, NBC): Maybe interesting? Likely not. And finally, as a heads-up, Ohio is at Western Michigan (8 ET Tuesday, ESPN2) … yes, once again during our recording time. So, yeah. Enjoy the football and the chaos this weekend, friends. We’ll see you back here next week for what will likely be another episode full of distractions. Cheers, yinz and y’all!

  • Carla and Crappy Show: The November Football Edition
    2025/10/29
It’s Week 10 of the college football season, and we’re not giddy just because New England College picked up its first win in 51 YEARS last weekend. Nor are we giddy simply because MACtion is back(tion) next week. But friends, it’s officially November Football season. And if that doesn’t bring a smile to your face, we’re not sure what will. Welcome to the Carla and Crappy Show. Before we get ahead of ourselves, though, we absolutely must talk about the happenings at LSU, which we’re just going to go ahead and call Moffitt’s Revenge. Also, we dive into the (remarkably?) plausible theory proposed by our friends at Phantom Island that 40 FBS head coaching jobs could come open before the end of the season. Carla notes an overall trend of the SEC getting closer to buffeting itself … while the top tier of the Big Ten appears to be separating clearly from the pack. And that leads us to spending time talking about the fact that we’re not spending time talking about Penn State at No. 1 Ohio State (Big Nude, FOX), and that we likely won’t be talking about the game again until 2028, due to a two-year scheduling hiatus, thanks to the conference not protecting the rivalry. (Also, shout out to Ben Jones for a great column on this.) Then, finally … we get to Week 10. How about 23 games? Yep. Let’s go. AJ’s up first with a stellar #GroupOfFiveAfterDark slate, which once again includes games that are neither G5 nor After Dark. Just go with it, folks. Army at Air Force (Noon ET, CBS): Salute the troops. Also, Army wins. Navy at North Texas (Noon ET, ESPN2): Legit good conference game. New Mexico at UNLV (3 ET, MW.com): Rebs are rolling. Fresno State at Boise State (3:30 ET, FS1): Never bet against the Smurf Turf. No. 15 Virginia at Cal (3:45 ET, ESPN2): Cavs almost blew it last weekend. Washington State at Oregon State (7:30 ET, CBS): First game of a home-and-home! Kentucky at Auburn (7:30 ET, SECN): Just … no. Arkansas State at Troy (8 ET, ESPNU): Could be close, but Troy. Hawaii at San Jose State (10:30 ET, CBSSN): Bows on the mainland! Also, don’t miss AJ’s storytime for this one. Up next? The Big 12 Buffet is most definitely open this weekend. Save room for the carving station. It’s gonna be a long day. West Virginia at No. 22 Houston (Noon ET, FS1): Sorry, ‘Eers. UCF at Baylor (Noon ET, ESPNU): This one could be sneaky good. Arizona State at Iowa State (1 ET, TNT): No Sam Leavitt could be a problem here for Sparky. No. 13 Texas Tech at Kansas State (3:30 ET, FOX): Super intriguing after the Powercats display last week. Oklahoma State at Kansas (4 ET, ESPN+): Jayhawks. Arizona at Colorado (7 ET, FS1): Colorado’s momentum swings are not for the faint of heart. No. 17 Cincinnati at No. 24 Utah (10:15 ET, ESPN): One of the best games of the weekend. Sorry, Cincy. You’re not the best team in Ohio. Utes win at home. Then? The Big Boy Slate is loaded with intrigue, but will it result in actual chaos? (At least one of us is hoping so.) No. 9 Vanderbilt at No. 20 Texas (Noon ET, ABC): Arch’s status for this game is uncertain, but we’re not sure that’s going to matter. We’re all in on Diego and the Dores, even against that robust Texas defense. No. 10 Miami at SMU (Noon ET, ESPN): This isn’t last year’s SMU team, and Miami’s already slipped up once this year. No. 5 Georgia vs. Florida (3:30 ET, ABC): OK, look. Georgia should likely win this. But there’s an interim coach, a new playcaller, and a Spurrier on the sideline again for Florida. Also, it’s the Cocktail Party, so all bets are off. No. 8 Georgia Tech at NC State (7:30 ET, ESPN2): Our spidey senses are raised for this one, because the Wolfpack always plays one game each year that doesn’t make sense. Is this that week? Likely no, but keep an eye on this. No. 18 Oklahoma at No. 14 Tennessee (7:30 ET, ABC): John Mateer just hasn’t looked the same post-injury, and the Vols want to plant themselves among the best in the SEC. Sorry, friends. There’s a lot of Rocky Top in our future Saturday night. No. 23 USC at Nebraska (7:30 ET, NBC): Oh, hey. Matt Rhule still needs a signature win. But we’re not sure he’s going to get it against the Trojans, either. If Lincoln Riley is smart, USC will run the heck out of the football. (We’re not banking on that, but it would be a good idea.) If that’s not enough football for you, our honorable mentions this week go to: Jacksonville State at MTSU: This game was played Wednesday night. (Sorry!) Robert Morris at Stonehill (1 ET, NEC Front Row): Hey, Bob won last weekend! FCS No. 18 Youngstown State at FCS No. 1 North Dakota State (3:30 ET, ESPN+): The best FCS game this week. Carnegie Mellon at Dickinson (3:30 ET, athletics.cmu.edu): Tartans look to get back on track. Mississippi State at Arkansas (4 ET, SECN): One of these teams will get its first conference win. Also, lots of points! Miami (OH) at Ohio (7 ET Tuesday, ESPN2): Fair warning: Crappy...

  • Carla and Crappy Show: The Commo-DORDT! Edition
    2025/10/23

It’s Week 9 of the college football season, and for the first time in nearly a month, the gang’s all here. To celebrate, we go completely off the rails. (Dordt!) It’s good to be back, friends.

We begin by analyzing the curious case of Billy Napier and the Florida Gators, and transition into our recap of what was a crazy weekend of football. Stanford won and North Carolina lost in the most ridiculous ways possible. Jeremiyah Love has fully reinserted his name into the Heisman discussion. Carla got to witness Diego Pavia go full maniac mode against LSU. And somehow, some way, Ole Miss goaded Georgia into a shootout … and lost the game anyway.

As we turn ahead to Week 9, AJ begins with a somewhat abbreviated #GroupOfFiveAfterDark report, in part because our Beloved Bows are off this week. But there is still a handful of intriguing matchups, including Western Michigan at Miami OH (3:30 ET, ESPN+) and San Diego State at Fresno State (3:30 ET, FS1). Also, something about a darning needle, a dishwasher, and Shohei Ohtani?

Anyhow, then it’s on to the Big 12 Buffet, which is most definitely open this weekend … so much so, in fact, that we run through the entire slate:

    • Kansas State at Kansas (Noon ET, TNT): It’s Sunflower Showdown time.

    • No. 11 BYU at Iowa State (3:30 ET, FOX): Everything here says Cougs, which means this is prime buffet picking.

    • Oklahoma State at No. 14 Texas Tech (4 ET, ESPNU): The Pokes could do the funniest thing ever here.

    • Baylor at No. 21 Cincinnati (4 ET, ESPN2): Can the Bears cause chaos at Nippert?

    • TCU at West Virginia (6 ET, ESPN+): Sorry, ‘Eers. It’s just not your year.

    • Houston at No. 24 Arizona State (8 ET, ESPN2): This game’s the main entree. Get your eyeballs here.

    • Colorado at Utah (10:15 ET, ESPN): The only true After Dark game this weekend.

We also take a quick detour to marvel at the fact that the winner of each of these two games will be bowl eligible: Northwestern at Nebraska (Noon ET, FS1) and Minnesota at Iowa (3:30 ET, CBS). Yes, really. Talk to your kids about this. Also, don’t miss Floyd of Rosedale!

And then? We’re very SEC heavy this week. But for a good reason.

No. 8 Ole Miss at No. 13 Oklahoma (Noon ET, ABC): Hey, Ole Miss? That Sooner defense is legit scary good.

No. 18 USF at Memphis (Noon ET, ESPN2): Memphis … you good? Because we know that USF is good. This game should be a dandy.

No. 15 Missouri at No. 10 Vanderbilt (3:30 ET, ESPN): Vandy’s getting the full GameDay treatment after knocking off LSU. Mizzou was happy just to escape Auburn.

No. 22 Texas at Mississippi State (4:15 ET, SECN): The Horns are … sketch, especially on offense. Can Clanga finally get that elusive SEC win at home?

No. 3 Texas A&M at No. 20 LSU (7:30 ET, ABC): Is a night game in Death Valley exactly what Brian Kelly needs?

FCS No. 1 North Dakota State at FCS No. 2 South Dakota State (8 ET, ESPNU): Put this game on your screen. Seriously. After we recorded this show, we learned that the game will be broadcast on national TV. So, no excuses!

With both Penn State (mercifully) and No. 1 Ohio State off on byes, our usual honorable mentions list is, ahem, wide-ranging:

    • Maine Maritime at New England College (Noon ET): This DIII game pits quite literally two of the three worst college football teams at every level against each other. And in the process of reviewing Bill Connelly’s Top 766 rankings, we discover that yes, friends, there is an actual school named Dordt. It’s a university in Sioux City, Iowa. And their football team is ranked just slightly below Robert Morris.

    • Ohio at Eastern Michigan (Noon ET, CBSSN): Playoffs may be out of the picture, but the Bobcats can still contend for a MAC title.

    • DIII No. 16 Carnegie Mellon at Muhlenberg (Noon ET, Centennial Conference Digital Network Livestream): Tartans head east to face the Mules.

    • Robert Morris at Saint Francis (3 ET, NEC Front Row): One of these teams has to win. For real.

    • Wisconsin at No. 6 Oregon (7 ET, FS1): Pay no attention to the actual football here. Have you seen the “grateful Ducks” uniforms? Crappy certainly has.

    • No. 25 Michigan at Michigan State (7:30 ET, NBC): The Paul Bunyon Trophy is on the line.

And with that, may the Dordt and all of the goodness of college football be with you this weekend, friends. Thanks for hanging with us, and we’ll see you back here again next week. Cheers.

  • Carla and Crappy Show: The Blue Raider Extra Point Edition
    2025/10/16

It’s Week 8 of the College Football season. AJ and Crappy are off on Fall Break, but as we all know, there are no breaks in college football. So Carla is here holding down the fort and attempting to keep her emotions in check after an eventful weekend in Not-So-Happy Valley. Joining her as guest co-host is Dylan Simmons, former anchor and now graduate assistant with MTN Sports and Blue Raider Extra Point.

Dylan and Carla discuss Indiana’s signature win at Autzen over the Ducks, the chaos that was Red River, and all of the happenings at Penn State. (Yes, Carla goes off on a monologue. Enjoy, friends.)

Then, despite being lost somewhere in the mountains, AJ has definitely not lost the plot, sending back an overflowing basket of games in this week’s #GroupOfFiveAfterDark report, featuring matchups that are neither G5 nor After Dark, including North Carolina at Cal (10:30 ET Friday, ESPN), UConn at Boston College (Noon ET, ACCN), and Florida State at Stanford (10:30 ET, ESPN). He also heaps up a big serving of the Big 12 Buffet. And good news! Hawaii’s playing in prime time. But you may want to caffeinate a bit anyway. (More on that in a moment.)

Then, we’re on to the rest of the slate.

Louisville at No. 2 Miami (7 ET Friday, ESPN): Are the Cards the last true test of the regular season for Miami? Perhaps. What we do know is that this game is insane every year. Put it on your TV Friday night.

Washington at Michigan (Big Nude, FOX): The Team Up North didn’t look great out West last weekend in the Coliseum. Also, why isn’t Washington ranked?

No. 10 LSU at No. 17 Vanderbilt (Noon ET, ABC): Can Diego and the Dores get back on track? Will Brian Kelly turn purple? Carla gets to see this game in person. Expect a full report next week.

No. 5 Ole Miss at No. 9 Georgia (3:30 ET, ABC): These two teams played absolutely chaotic games last weekend … which means that this game has a high potential of being ridiculous. Get your eyeballs on this one.

No. 11 Tennessee at No. 6 Alabama (7:30 ET, ABC): Yes, friends, we hate to see it, but Bama is fully back. Can the Vols get it done at Bryant Denny? That’s a really tough ask.

No. 20 USC at No. 13 Notre Dame (7:30 ET, NBC): The Irish really need a signature win to bolster their playoff resume. Enter a freshly ranked USC team that knocked off Michigan last week. The intrigue factor here is very high.

No. 23 Utah at No. 15 BYU (8 ET, FOX): This game is always an absolute rock fight, and this year should be no exception. While BYU escaped Arizona last weekend, Utah obliterated Arizona State. (The Big 12 Buffet is buffeting again, kids.) And trust us: Utah remembers 22-21 last year. Do the Utes get revenge? Caffeinate if necessary so you don’t miss this one.

Other games worth noting in our honorable mentions:

    • No. 12 Georgia Tech at Duke (Noon ET, ESPN): Dylan thinks Manny Diaz could steal one here. An intriguing ACC matchup, for sure.

    • Robert Morris at Long Island (Noon ET, NEC Front Row): Bob really needs a win.

    • Gettysburg at No. 16 Carnegie Mellon (1 ET, athletics.cmu.edu): The Tartans lost a heartbreaker last weekend. Can they pick up a win at home?

    • Northern Illinois at Ohio (3:30 ET, ESPN+): We’re still trying to get the Bobcats playoff-bound.

    • No. 1 Ohio State at Wisconsin (3:30 ET, CBS): Does Luke Fickell survive if this is a blowout?

    • Penn State at Iowa (7 ET, Peacock): Let’s see what former Gateway HS coach Terry Smith can do with the Nits. Also, dig out your streaming password.

You can catch Blue Raider Extra Point live from the Grove in Murfreesboro and all of the student broadcasts on the MTN Sports YouTube channel. (Hint: You may want to pay attention to the live broadcast on November 8. You may recognize the celebrity guest picker.)

Thanks again to Dylan for joining us, and thank you all for all you do for this show. Enjoy the football this weekend, and we’ll see you back here with (hopefully!) a full team back in action on the Carla and Crappy Show. Cheers, yinz and y’all.

    2025/10/09

Welcome to Week 7 of the Carla and Crappy Show, where Carla has given up on college football in favor of hockey, and Crappy’s out sick. Is AJ our only hope? (Well, yeah, but if you’ve been around here for a while, you knew that already.)

After AJ regains Carla’s focus, we recap last weekend’s action, including a bunch of games that were much closer than their final scores indicated, and the disaster that is UNC. Oh, and Carla posits some theories about what happened in the Rose Bowl, none of which are good if you’re a Nittany Lion fan.

We then turn our attention to this weekend’s action, as AJ gives us a brief tour of the Group of 5, including Air Force at UNLV (3:30 ET, CBSSN) and UAB at FAU (6 ET, ESPN+), both of which have the potential to be pointsy as heck. To counter that, he also begrudgingly discusses Iowa at Wisconsin (7 ET, FS1), which has possibly the lowest-ever Fun Index in the history of this show at 35.5.

Next, we move on to the potential that is the Big 12 Buffet, where there are some exceptionally tasty options on the menu this week. (We’re looking squarely at you, BYU.)

    • No. 22 Iowa State at Colorado (3:30 ET, ESPN)

    • Kansas at No. 9 Texas Tech (7:30 ET, FOX)

    • No. 18 BYU at Arizona (8 ET, ESPN2)

    • No. 21 Arizona State at Utah (10:15 ET, ESPN)

And then, we’re onto the main slate.

No. 24 USF at North Texas (7:30 ET Friday, ESPN2): USF was the early-season darling before losing at Miami. North Texas is unbeaten and hyped. With a super high Fun Index, you should definitely put this game on your screen on Friday night.

No. 1 Ohio State at No. 17 Illinois (Big Nude, FOX): Remember what Indiana’s defense did to Illinois? Yeah. Ohio State’s defense is better. Yes, Annoying Bert is definitely back, but we like the Bucks on the road.

No. 8 Alabama at No. 14 Missouri (Noon ET, ABC): Mizzou is unbeaten, but for the most part untested. Bama’s got Tennessee next week. The intrigue factor is high in this one. (But we’re really afraid that good Bama is back. Darn it all.)

No. 7 Indiana at No. 3 Oregon (3:30 ET, CBS): Last year, a really good Indiana team got brought back down to earth by Ohio State. This is a very similar situation. Can the Hoosiers win an elite game in 2025?

No. 6 Oklahoma vs. Texas (3:30 ET, ABC): Should Oklahoma rush back John Mateer for this game? Is Arch really as bad as he looked last week at Florida? This game never makes sense. Happy Elmer Fudd week, friends!

No. 15 Michigan at USC (7:30 ET, NBC): The Wolverines are … fine. But they just keep winning. USC has the top offense in the Big Ten. Is that enough to pick up a needed signature win?

And, just for fun, AJ gives Carla a blind statistics quiz on a handful of Week 7 matchups. (You’re going to want to watch this part!)

The honorable mention slate goes to our usual suspects:

    • No. 17 Carnegie Mellon at No. 3 Johns Hopkins (Noon ET, athletics.cmu.edu)

    • Central Connecticut State at Robert Morris (2 ET, ESPN+)

    • Northwestern at Penn State (3:30 ET, FS1)

The playoff-bound Ohio Bobcats (yep, still speaking that into existence!) are off this week, and we regret to inform you that you already missed Missouri State at MTSU, because that game was played Wednesday night. (Welcome back, mid-week football!)

Enjoy the football this weekend, friends, and be sure to come back next week for an extra-special surprise edition of the #CnCShow. Cheers!

  • Carla and Crappy Show: The Weird Sentences Edition
    2025/10/02

Alabama absolutely must beat Vanderbilt, or Kalen DeBoer will feel the temperature rising again. Bill Belichick could put Dabo on the hot seat this week. Virginia is nationally ranked and appears to be a legit contender in the ACC. Crappy has abandoned college football for a few days to be a baseball fan.

And those are just a small handful of the abundance of weird sentences that we utter in the Week 6 edition of the Carla and Crappy Show. Welcome back, friends.

While our fearless leader is away counting balls and strikes in Cleveland, Carla and AJ are joined by long-time friend of the show and unofficial television voice of the Blue Raiders, Jake Rose, to continue our weekly tradition of talking (too much) about college football.

Jake gets us started by reveling in his “better than last year” Indiana Hoosiers (uh oh, Big Ten), while AJ is yet again having feelings about Hawaii football. Carla, meanwhile, is still frustrated by double overtime and wonders if Dan Lanning may have inadvertently created a low-key rivalry between the Ducks and Nittany Lions.

Then, AJ runs us through his #GroupOfFiveAfterDark report, which includes Clemson at North Carolina (Noon ET, ESPN), which is neither G5 nor After Dark, but it has very high stupid potential. Also, Air Force travels to Navy (Noon ET, CBS) in a battle of planes versus boats, and a friendly reminder that Duke at Cal (10:30 ET, ESPN) is a conference game. Thanks, All-Coast Conference.

And then, onto this week’s intriguing slate:

No. 14 Iowa State at Cincinnati (Noon ET, ESPN2): Why is Cincy favored in this game? Does anyone know what we’re missing?

No. 16 Vanderbilt at No. 10 Alabama (3:30 ET, ESPN): Uh oh. Bama looks like it might actually be back … just in time to host Diego and the Dores. Yes, this is a must-win for the Tide. And yes, it feels very weird to say that.

No. 24 Virginia at Louisville (3:30 ET, ESPN2): Louisville can be feisty at home, but we think Virginia might actually be legit good.

No. 11 Texas Tech at Houston (7 ET, ESPN): Tech’s expensive roster seems to be working, especially on defense. We’ll see if that holds up against the unbeaten Cougars on the road.

No. 3 Miami at No. 18 Florida State (7:30 ET, ABC): The last time these two teams were nationally ranked in this game was 2016. Can the Noles bounce back from last week’s collapse? Or will Mario Cristobal find a new way to mess up the Canes’ clock management? (Spoiler: AJ thinks this game ends on a doink. Here’s hoping.)

Honorable mentions this week go to three potentially appetizing Big 12 buffet options: Kansas State at Baylor (Noon ET, ESPN+), TCU at Colorado (7:30 ET, FOX), and Kansas at UCF (7:30 ET, ESPN2). We also run down our usual teams, because that’s what we do:

    • Ohio at Ball State (Noon ET, CBSSN): We’re still trying to get the Bobcats to the playoff, even without Crappy.

    • Robert Morris at Merrimack (Noon ET, ESPN+): One final test before conference play for the Colonials.

    • McDaniel College at Carnegie Mellon (3 ET, athletics.cmu.edu): What, exactly, is a Green Terror? The Tartans are about to find out.

    • No. 7 Penn State at UCLA (3:30 ET, CBS): Carla’s team gets a get-right game.

    • Minnesota at No. 1 Ohio State (7:30 ET, NBC): We hear boats don’t row well in the middle of Ohio.

We’re grateful to Jake for jumping in to fill in this week, and as always, we’re grateful to you for all you do for our little show. Enjoy the college football this weekend, friends. We’ll see if Crappy comes back next week. Cheers!
