February 1987. The winter that wouldn't end. Luna's uncle, a lineman for the phone company, took a call no one should have answered. A repeater station on Ridge Road, five miles outside of Millbrook, New York, had been sending garbled audio for three nights. When he drove up there to fix it, he found the bunkhouse door unlocked, the generator still running, and a single cassette tape on the desk. The tape held eighteen minutes of a voice he almost recognized. He brought it home. Luna played it once. She never played it again.
