In the winter of 1998, I spent a week in my grandmother's house on Sage Street in Stone Hollow, Vermont, after she passed. The house was a time capsule of the 1970s, and in the attic I found a Philco radio from 1953. I plugged it in one night at 3 AM, and it didn't hum or crackle. It played a station that didn't exist—a woman's voice, calm and clear, reading a list of names. Some I recognized from the obituaries in the local paper. Some I didn't.
