  • Episode 03: Neuro Nuggets - What’s a Neuron Anyway
    2022/02/12

Who said the heart was more important anyway? Jokes aside, the brain and heart have an incredible relationship together and bias disclosed - it all starts with neurons.

Neurons are amazing in every sense of the word.

The way I see it, neurons are the bacon in a BLT – you can’t have a BLT without bacon and you certainly can’t have a brain without neurons. They are the building blocks of our brain and nervous system, sending and receiving input and commands 24/7.

  • Episode 02: Cerebral Connection - Schizophrenia
    2022/01/23

Imagine having difficulty distinguishing reality from what is occurring inside your head. Imagine not knowing and then becoming paranoid over what the hallucinations are telling you. It is often something incomprehensible for most people and misunderstood.

Schizophrenia is a complicated and severe mental health illness that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Due to multifaceted stigma, persons living with mental illness often struggle with their own internal, societal and institutional stigma which can lead to isolation, exacerbation of illness and poor outcomes.

Join me today while we discuss schizophrenia and the difficulties with stigma and how it can affect treatment and quality of life.

  • Intro to The Brain Grave
    2021/12/30

Hi! if you’re listening to this it means you might be interested in what we talk about here. I’m going to break down the meaning of this podcast and what I’m hoping to shine some light on here at The Brain Grave. First and foremost, I must say, this is not going to be a kid friendly show as we are going to talk about sensitive topics like murder and suicide. It is also likely not suitable for work environments, but I will leave that up to all of you. My goal will be to post episodes weekly – sometimes more, sometimes less – because you know, life happens.

What my goal here at The Brain Grave is, is to educate and inform – help tie in all 4 of these segments because they do have an underlying theme – the stigma that surrounds these topics. The difficult discussions that make some people uncomfortable, it’s time to get loud and make our voices heard – murder/violence is never ok, mental health is just as important as other components of physical health and neurology isn’t as scary as everyone thinks. So, if you’d like to join in this quest to get the word out, I can’t wait to hear from you.

    Thanks for listening.
