  • Nueva Yol, La Isla & Fiji: We Celebrated, We Cried, We Watched the Villa
    2026/06/19

Nos fuimos de viaje, bueno a nuestro estilo. This week on Boricua Culture Mix Pod, we're making three stops and we're not slowing down.

Primera Parada: Nueva Yol 🗽 New York was in full Boricua mode — the Puerto Rican Day Parade took over 5th Ave while the Knicks ended a 53-year championship drought. And right in the middle of it all? José Alvarado — Brooklyn-born, Puerto Rican by heart, draped in la bandera on the podium. We talk about what it means to be a diasporican to win an NBA title, and why his story is the living definition of you are Boricua enough.

Segunda Parada: La Isla 🇵🇷 While New York was celebrating, Puerto Rico was in crisis. We sit down with Bianca from @ThisLatinaTravels, a resident of the island, to talk about what the water crisis actually looks like day to day — 15-minute water windows, eating out because you can't wash dishes, and neighbors in desperation. This isn't just a headline. It's somebody's real life. We also break down the Superacueducto failures, what the government is and isn't doing, and how the diaspora can help right now.

Última Parada: Fiji 🌴 Because every now and then you gotta put your brain on pause. Love Island USA Season 8 has been... villa-ing. We give our takes on the couples, who needs to go home immediately, and why we're actually here for the Aftersun glow-up this season.

New episodes every week. Leave us a review — it means more than you know.

And remember: You are Boricua enough.

  • Jay Wheeler, Love Island & Unsolicited Opinions
    2026/06/12

Porque en 2026, the internet doesn't just talk — it decides.

Then we got into it. The comments from Carlos Vives abrieron una conversación más grande sobre colonización, identidad, raza y representación en Latinoamérica. As Boricuas navigating life from the diaspora, compartimos nuestras perspectivas on how history, privilege, and culture still shape the conversations we're having today — and why these topics aren't going anywhere.

And because we needed a palate cleanser — Love Island. Desde nuestros contestants favoritos hasta el drama, los red flags, y los momentos que nos tuvieron gritando frente al televisor, we had all the opinions nobody asked for and we gave them anyway.

Before we wrapped up, tocamos el tema de la crisis de agua en Puerto Rico. Because staying informed and showing up for our community matters — siempre.

    En este episodio:

✨ Jay Wheeler, fan culture & social media expectations

🎵 Carlos Vives y la conversación sobre colonización, raza e identidad

🇵🇷 Boricua perspectives from La Isla to the diaspora

📺 Love Island drama, favorite contestants & reality TV takes

💧 Puerto Rico's water crisis and why it matters

☕ Chisme, cultura, laughter & real conversations

As always, we're bringing nuestra perspectiva boricua, a little Spanglish, and the kind of conversation that feels like catching up con tus primas over a strong cafecito.

Where La Isla meets the diaspora, solos has que 100 x 35. 🇵🇷☕

  • La Bomba Is a Language: Loíza, Migration & Black Boricua Identity
    2026/02/25

This week on Boricua Culture Mix, we sit down with Anthony “Ant” Rivera, a North Philly filmmaker and storyteller behind the documentary project La Lengua del Tambor.

We talk about bomba as a language—a living archive born from resistance during slavery, a rhythm that carried messages, survival, and joy when our ancestors were denied freedom. Ant connects Loíza (la raíz, el corazón Afro-Boricua) with North Philly Boricuas, showing how culture travels, transforms, and still protects us in the diaspora.

In this convo we get into:

    • Why Loíza’s stigma says more about colonial fear than Loíza itself

    • Protecting sacred traditions from being diluted or commercialized

    • The role of elders, community, and stewardship in storytelling

    • Unlearning anti-Blackness and the “pages they took out the book”

    • Why visibility matters: we deserve to see Black Boricuas on screen—period

This episode is educational, real, funny, and deep—porque we can hold joy and truth at the same time.

Si te encanta el análisis cultural, el orgullo Boricua y el chisme bueno con contexto, this one is for you. 🇵🇷✨
