  • #232 - The Pressure Paradox: Marilyn Rosa-Green on Why 80% of Leadership Work Is Belief, Not Skill
    2026/09/24

    Send us Fan Mail

Featuring Marilyn Rosa-Green, Licensed Professional Counselor and Executive Leadership Coach, Marilyn Rosa Consulting.

You do your best work when the heat is on. Then the deadline passes, the crisis clears, the job changes, and you stall. Marilyn Rosa-Green has a name for that, and it is not a character flaw.

    🔥 The Pressure Paradox

Your nervous system learned that pressure works. The paper written the night before earned the A. The board deck built Saturday night landed Monday. Twenty years of that and the wiring is set. Take the pressure away and high performers do not exhale, they stall.

KNOW: Manufacturing carries the highest turnover of any sector in recent years, 38 to 40 percent. Pressure industries build people who need the pressure.

    🧠 Belief Beats Skill

Marilyn was hired to teach leadership skills to a group of manufacturing supervisors. Two sessions in, she saw it. These were people with 5 to 20 years of supervising behind them. They knew how to lead. They had been promoted from within and believed they had something to prove.

KNOW: 80 percent of that work turned out to be belief. 20 percent was skill. Someone who believes they are not a good leader will not be one.

⚡ Real Pressure and the Kind You Manufacture

Bo spent ten years at the White House, where the standard was zero defects and one wrong speed-dial number ended a career. Healthcare front lines carry that weight too. Most for-profit work does not, so high performers invent stakes to feel the drive.

🎭 Numb Is Not a Strategy

One engineering director shut his emotions off at the door to survive the chaos, then switched them back on at home. It held for a while. Five years later he could not find the switch, his first child was coming, and his wife told him it would not last.

BE: One person, not two. Marilyn calls it work-life integration, because it is the same nervous system in both buildings.

It is not the pressure. It is what you believe while you are under it.

    🎯 DO This Week

Batch your inbox. Luke checks his three times a day, 9:30, noon, and 4:30. Nobody waits longer than three hours.

Name one belief you hold about your own competence, then go find the evidence that contradicts it.

  • #231 - How to Rewire Your Brain for Change: Neuroscience Strategies That Actually Work

Why Your Brain Is Wired to Resist Change — and How to Rewire It

Featuring Lindsay Mareau, Co-Founder, Illumination Strategies | Certified Neuro Change Solutions Global Consultant

Change is the one constant every human being faces. And almost every human being handles it badly. Not because they lack willpower or resilience — but because nobody ever taught them how their own brain and heart actually work.

Luke sits down with Lindsay Mareau, a former VP of Strategy at Phenom who made a deliberate pivot from AI technology strategist to what she calls a human technology strategist. She now runs corporate workshops and coaching programs built on the neuroscience of change, HeartMath research, and the methodology of Dr. Joe Dispenza. Bo missed this one. He will regret it.

🧠 The Brain Is Protecting You — and Keeping You Stuck Resistance to change is not weakness. It is biology. Our nervous systems are wired to equate the unknown with danger. The problem is those same survival systems keep us locked in patterns we never consciously chose. Lindsay reframes this: your thoughts are not who you are. They are patterns — outdated integrations running on repeat. Once you separate your identity from the loop, you can start to rewrite it.

❤️ Your Heart Is Running More of the Show Than You Think HeartMath research shows that 90% of the communication between heart and brain flows upward — not down. Your emotional state shapes your ability to think, decide, and collaborate more than your conscious thoughts do. Positive thinking while you feel like a dumpster fire will not get you there. Slowing down the heart signal does.

⏱️ A 30-Second Reset That Actually Works You do not need a meditation cushion or a retreat. Slow your breath. Place your focus in the area of your chest. Take a few deeper-than-usual breaths. That is it. Even 30 seconds shifts your internal state enough to broaden your perspective and open new solutions. Practice it before the meeting, not just in a crisis.

🏢 The Organizational Implication Companies are pouring resources into technology transformation while leaving people completely unequipped to handle the change those tools create. The World Economic Forum's top future skills — resilience, stress management, creative problem-solving — are not soft skills. They are the infrastructure that makes every other investment work.
