概要
The thought of a wet cover and perfectly dry pages in a November snowbank is eerie enough, but the family register inside contains four words that stopped a road-grader operator in his tracks: "Father: known to God." Who wrote that entry and why did a child born April 3, 1949, have no father recorded by name?
In this episode, we follow how a found King James Bible and a single cryptic entry connect a Fort Wayne technical writer to her grandmother's hidden past. Teresa Gardner’s genealogical search uncovers a nine-year gap in births, a misfiled school card marked withdrawn, and a Bible that had sat in an archive for nine years - so how did all of this converge on Cecelia Ann Morse?
Person: Raymond Bishop
Date: November 14, 2011
Person: Teresa Gardner
Date: April 3, 1949
Location: Route Nine east of Dellwood, Indiana
- The Bible was found by Raymond Bishop on November 14, 2011 in a drainage easement off Route Nine east of Dellwood, Indiana.
- The family record shows Cecelia Ann Morse born April 3, 1949 with "Mother: Agnes" and "Father: known to God."
- The Bible's cover was soaking wet while the pages inside were perfectly dry and the brass clasp still fastened.
- Teresa Gardner ordered a DNA kit in fall 2019 and received matches linked to Tillman County surnames, not the Gardner side.
- An enrollment card dated September 1954 listed "C. Morse" with no birth year, a red diagonal scratch, and the word "withdrawn."
