  • Isaiah 42 - Lectio Divina
    2025/05/15
We are experiencing the Word of God this week through the process of Lectio Divina. To break it down, I read through the scripture one time without any kind of commentary or response. The second time, I share something on the Word or a phrase that stands out to me. I'll then read it a third time and explain why this connects to me. Following this, I pray that I receive whatever the Spirit wants me to learn or know about this passage, and how to apply it to my life. Today we're reading out of Isaiah 42... Let's get started!

  • Luke 15 - Lectio Divina
    2025/05/14
Usually we try to pack in as much about a passage of scripture as we can into about seven minutes on this podcast in order to really dive into the context, the meaning, the teaching and learning of it. This week we're doing something completely different. We are doing the practice of Lectio Davina, which is divine reading. It's a contemplative method of reading the Bible that was practiced early in the church in monasteries.

  • John 1 - Lectio Divina
    2025/05/13
Lectio Divina—a simple, prayerful way to read scripture and listen for God’s voice. Focusing on John 1:1-5, I invite you to notice which words or phrases stand out and what God might be saying to you through them. Reflect on Jesus as the Word and the beauty of creation.

  • Psalm 62 - Lectio Divina
    2025/05/12
We encounter the Word by reading it, listening to it (like you do here), meditating on it, and memorizing it. And there are many ways to read it, many questions you can ask, notes you can take alongside your reading, and more. One contemplative method of reading the Bible is called lectio divina, or "divine reading", and that's what we're doing this week.

  • Proverbs 31 Mom - Moms of the Bible - Proverbs 31
    2025/05/09
Okay, so the mom we're talking about today isn't actually a real person. But you probably know a LOT about her, and if you're a woman, you might even feel a little indignant towards her. Hang with me. We're talking about the Proverbs 31 woman.

  • Elizabeth - Moms of the Bible - Luke 1
    2025/05/08
We usually hear a lot about Mary, mother of Jesus, which is perfectly right, because she did an incredible thing. But we don't tend to hear as much about her relative, Elizabeth, who had such an amazing testimony as well. Elizabeth was past childbearing age, and had no expectation of having a child. And for so many at the time, being able to bear children was a sign of God's favor. So even though Elizabeth seemed to do all the right things, she did not bear children, and this must have been so painful.

  • The Widow and Mom of Zarepath - Moms of the Bible - 1 Kings 17
    2025/05/07
What convinces you in your faith? What examples can you give of times when you've seen or heard God clearly? Today we're reading about another mom who was at the end of her rope, and how God did some incredible work when she felt she had nothing to give. All she could do was believe.
