God answers through Isaiah, promising judgment against Assyria and protection for Jerusalem. That night, the angel of the LORD strikes down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. Sennacherib withdraws and later dies at the hands of his own sons.

Ahaz sends silver and gold from the temple and royal treasury to Assyria and later copies an altar he sees in Damascus. He replaces the altar of the LORD with his own designs and alters the temple worship according to his desires.

Through this chapter, we see the danger of compromising God's commands and trusting political power instead of the LORD. Ahaz's choices reveal how idolatry can corrupt both leadership and worship.
