Entrepreneurs waste a lot of mental energy replaying the past or worrying about what’s still to come. Dan Sullivan and Steve Krein discuss a simple practice for putting your attention back on today: consciously choosing activities that will make tomorrow’s yesterday feel worthwhile, satisfying, and complete.
Here’s some of what you’ll learn in this episode:
- How this mental shift relieves self-imposed pressure.
- How using this tool feels from the first planning stage.
- The compounding value of sticking with the process.
- How your daily activities earn you points.
Show Notes:
You cannot spend time in the past or the future; the only time you can actually do anything with is today.
Entrepreneurs don’t have bosses creating pressure for them; they’re usually more than capable of doing that themselves.
Each morning, look back at yesterday and ask yourself whether you created a great day.
What matters isn’t how many hours you worked, but whether what you did made the day worthwhile.
Give yourself one point for everyday activities, five points for things you do less often, and 10 points for creative things you’ve never done before.
The more impact something has, the more points it deserves.
The point system is a way to notice what you’re doing and give yourself credit for it.
It’s the quality of the activities you got done during the day that matters, not how long you spent doing them.
There are no penalties in this game, so every positive action helps create a better yesterday.
You can’t always control what happens during the day, but you always have a choice about how you respond to it.
When you’re paying attention to your day, you’re less likely to feel like you wasted it.
