Rylan Griffen, Texas A&M’s standout guard who led the team in steals and ranked second in scoring last season, just got a major boost: a temporary restraining order has cleared his path to play another year in college. The Brazos County judge’s ruling grants him eligibility for the 2026-27 season, giving him an extra year to dominate after originally running out of eligibility. With experience from Kansas and Alabama, plus NBA Summer League exposure with the Denver Nuggets (where he didn’t sign), Griffen’s decision to pursue legal action—and walk away from the pro route—signals his full commitment to returning to Aggieland. This is a huge win for both the player and the program, as his impact last year proves he’s a key piece they can’t afford to lose.

With some getting extra years and others blocked, the landscape is shifting fast, turning contenders into also-rans and vice versa. The season’s biggest surprises may not come from the court, but from the legal system.
