Rowing is a team and individual sport in which athletes propel long, narrow boats through the water using oars. At the Derby City Head Race, crews will race against the clock rather than directly alongside one another. This type of race is called a head race, a time trial format commonly held over longer distances. The Derby City Head Race course will cover approximately 5,000 meters, or 3.1 miles, along the Ohio River. Crews will begin near the TurfMutt Great Lawn, row upstream toward the WaterTower at the corner of Zorn Avenue and River Road, turn around, and race back toward the finish at the Great Lawn.Spectators will see crews spread out along the course, each working to complete the distance as quickly as possible.
