  • Sinner struck by sickness, Swiatek sizzles in Cincy as Raducanu + Alcaraz take on US Open Mixed
    2025/08/19

It’s US Open lead-up week, which can only mean one thing… Mixed Doubles madness! But that’s not all — Cincinnati once again proved brutal, delivering one of the toughest two-week stretches on tour as players battled the sweltering Ohio heat and a wave of retirements. Jannik Sinner’s sudden illness handed Carlos Alcaraz his first Cincy crown, while Iga Swiatek overpowered Jasmine Paolini to reclaim the World No. 2 spot. Frenchman (and massive Pokémon fan) Terence Atmane enjoyed a dream run to the semi-finals, and Elena Rybakina put on a clinic against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, with coach Stefano Vukov now officially back on tour.

We also dive into our first impressions of the revamped Mixed Doubles at Flushing Meadows — unpredictable, intriguing, and highlighted by a must-watch showdown between Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz versus Jack Draper and doubles-singles supremo Jessica Pegula. Elsewhere, Venus Williams was handed a wildcard which makes her the oldest ever singles entrant in 44 years at 45 years old, while we look ahead to the final pre–US Open events in Winston-Salem, Monterrey, and Cleveland’s Tennis in the Land - with Joel really not sure why there are 500 events in Mexico just before the fourth and final major gets underway in New York.

And don’t forget — we’re back on Thursday with our US Open Draw Preview, featuring bold predictions, quarter-by-quarter analysis, and the return of Collect-a-Set!

  • Mboko wins Montreal as new star is born, Shelton secures first 1000 title
    2025/08/08

The Canada Open delivered high drama and history! Wildcard sensation Victoria Mboko, just 18, thrilled home fans with a stunning run to her first title that included defeating 4 Grand Slam champions. Join Joel and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they discuss what impressed them most throughout the event and whether we are looking at a potential future World No. 1. They also talk about Naomi Osaka's up turn in form but wonder whether the crowd had an impact on her mentally and was it really an accident to not praise Mboko in the post match ceremony.

Elsehwere brilliant Ben Shelton claimed his maiden Masters 1000 crown in a nail-biting final over Karen Khachanov. We break down Shelton’s growing rivalry with fellow American Taylor Fritz — and who really has the edge and wonder why Khachnov isn't more celebrated on tour. We also preview a stacked Cincinnati Open draw featuring the returns of Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Aryna Sabalenka, with bold predictions and fan reflections on how this revamped US Open lead-up is shaping the season (spoiler alert: bring back one week Masters!).

  • Osaka bounces back, Shelton chases 1st 1000 title and 18 year old Mboko upsets Coco
    2025/08/04

Quarterfinals are locked in at the Canada Open—and while star power may be light, the drama and surprises are anything but. With standout performances lighting up both Toronto and Montreal, Joel, Kim, and Chris return to Tennis Weekly HQ to unpack all the action as the US Open draws nearer.

This week, they discuss the long-awaited WTA emergence of Victoria Mboko, following her impressive ITF blitz at the start of the season. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff—still top seed—continues to struggle with her serving scaries in singles, though her doubles form remains strong. Why the disconnect? The team weighs in. Naomi Osaka also headlines after bouncing back from a disappointing DC stint with a new coach and fresh confidence, powering into the quarterfinals. What’s driving her post-Mouratoglou resurgence?

Over on the men’s side, tensions flared between Ben Shelton and Flavio Cobolli (though we’re not really sure why?), and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina sparked debate after complaining about an early wake-up—much to Dan Evans' irritation. Was he out of line, or does he have a point?

Plus, the team looks ahead to the US Open and the surprising announcement of a new tennis-themed dating show, Game Set Matchmaker—which Kim suspected might be a late April Fools’ joke. They also debate who deserves the final two wildcard slots at the inaugural Mixed Doubles event—and whether real-life couples like De Minaur/Boulter and Monfils/Svitolina (aka GEMS Life) should get the nod.

  • De Minaur and Fernandez win in DC, Osaka/Mouratoglou split, Sinner's shock rehire
    2025/07/28

The North American hard court swing is heating up as we head toward the US Open, with the Canada Open in Montreal and Toronto just around the corner. But first, join Joel and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they reflect on all the action this week including Washington, DC — where Leylah Fernandez and Alex de Minaur dazzled their way to titles, leaving their opponents still searching for that elusive trophy. And get the violins out as sadly yes, that does include another heartbreaking loss for Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who let championship points slip away once again this season.

Emma Raducanu also reclaimed the British No.1 spot with a strong semi-final run, and Venus Williams reminded us of her timeless talent at 45, turning back the clock against Peyton Stearns — a player half her age! Elsewhere, Jannik Sinner made headlines by rehiring his former fitness coach involved in the controversial clostebol case. And in coaching news, it was splitsville for both Naomi Osaka and Stefanos Tsitsipas, parting ways with Patrick Mouratoglou and Goran Ivanišević, one amicably and one not so amicably. We also preview the upcoming Canada Open, complete with draw analysis (and Joel’s rage over a Thursday final!) plus some bold, unexpected champion predictions.

We’re also bringing back PEAK, PIT, and PLEASANT SURPRISE to share our personal high points, low points, and unexpected moments — including Fabio Fognini’s sudden retirement that caught Joel off guard in the staff canteen, how Charli XCX at Glastonbury somehow found its way into Kim’s routine and Chris realising you can’t eat in the Media seats on court. • Wimbledon Day 13 - Swiatek dominates final as Anisimova suffers double bagel fate
    2025/07/12

It was a historic Ladies’ Final on Centre Court — but probably not in the way anyone imagined when the day began. Iga Swiatek is your Wimbledon champion after a jaw-dropping 57-minute double bagel over Amanda Anisimova, wrapping up her sixth Grand Slam title in ruthless style. It’s the first time we’ve seen a women’s final won 6-0, 6-0 since Steffi Graf crushed Natalia Zvereva at the 1988 French Open.

Joel and Chris are here to break down exactly what went down in a match everyone thought would be much tighter. They’ll chat about what this win means for Swiatek’s season and why she’s just so unstoppable when it matters most at majors, having lost only two games across her semi-final and final at The Championships. And what about Anisimova? How does she pick herself up from such a tough loss — and can we expect to see her back on this stage anytime soon?

Plus, there was even more history on the doubles court: Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool pulled off the first all-British men’s doubles title in 89 years. And we’re counting down to the mouthwatering clash between Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner — bring it on!
