Televangelist Jim Bakker has passed away at the age of 86, leaving behind one of the most complicated legacies in American Christian television. In this video, we look back at the rise and fall of the PTL founder, his years alongside Tammy Faye Bakker, the collapse of his ministry, his prison sentence, and his eventual return to Christian broadcasting.

We also examine a remarkable story from Bakker’s darkest years: Billy Graham visited him in prison and embraced him after his fall from grace. It is a powerful reminder that Christians can extend grace, friendship, and restoration to a repentant believer without necessarily restoring a fallen leader to ministry. We also examine the very different spiritual path taken by Jim Bakker’s son, Jay Bakker, who became known for progressive Christianity after growing up amid the collapse of his parents’ ministry. His story raises important questions about the spiritual damage that can follow distorted Christianity, celebrity culture, and the prosperity gospel. What can the church learn from Jim Bakker’s life and death? How should Christians respond when prominent pastors fall? And what are we handing to the next generation? We’ll discuss Jim Bakker, Billy Graham, Jay Bakker, PTL, the prosperity gospel, progressive Christianity, repentance, restoration, church scandals, and the importance of remaining faithful to Jesus Christ and Scripture.
