Tales of the Texas Rangers presents “Just a Number,” an audition episode originally broadcast on April 13, 1950. Cataloged as episode 0, this NBC drama stars Joel McCrea as Ranger Jace Pearson and was written by Russell Hughes and produced by Stacy Keach.

When a multiple homicide is discovered at a remote Carson County ranch, Pearson faces a case with few clear clues and an uncertain timeline. Following practical ranch details, missing money, and a distinctive trace of earth, the Ranger pursues a tightening trail across Texas Panhandle country.

Old Time Retro Radio presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
