  • Ep. 2: How To Transform Workplaces into a Climate of Possibility
    2020/08/12

    SUMMARY
Part of my role is to educate organizational leaders about the benefits of creating positive and resilient work cultures, which is the primary reason why I started Tackle Tuesday.

My mission is to improve people’s lives by transforming one workplace at a time. Moving away from a climate of command and control, towards a climate of possibility.

But how do you transform workplaces into environments that are inspiring, motivating, and engaging? Listen to find out.

FIVE PRINCIPLES IN CREATING AN ENGAGING AND PRODUCTIVE WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT

    1. Employees are encouraged to reflect on previous knowledge and experiences and contribute them into projects and decision making.
    2. Employees have the freedom to approach work in their own way.
    3. Employees are encouraged to experiment and approach their work in a new way (e.g. try out the new skills in an environment that is risk/failure supportive).
    4. Employees regularly and frequently receive feedback on their performance so that they can improve.
    5. The work environment is positive and encouraging.

    SMMARY
For the first episode, I decided not to use this as an opportunity to formally introduce myself and talk about why I started this podcast series. Initially this was a live webcast, but I decided to convert it into a podcast to make it more accessible for my listeners.

Some of the episodes you will hear are from the original webcast series and others will be new. At times I will be interviewing experts and entrepreneurs whose companies are leading the way in transforming workplace cultures, and other times, it will just be me, talking about a topic that I am passionate about that is relevant in today’s workplace context.

  • Ep. 5: How One Police Service Modernized Recruiting with Mentoring
    2020/09/08

    Send us Fan Mail

    SUMMARY
In response to the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements, we have seen a number of organizations rushing to tick the “Diversity & Inclusion” box, which mostly encompasses unconscious bias training. But when diversity and inclusion strategies do not go beyond basic compliance training, we miss an opportunity to truly to assess how diverse groups may experience our policies, programs, products, and services. The only way we can uncover inequities is to ensure we include diverse perspectives into our decision-making.

But many organizations still struggle in figuring out how to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion within their systems and processes. One organization that has successfully integrated D&I into their recruitment strategy, is the Edmonton Police Service, which saw a 61% increase in women recruits and a 118% increase in diversity overall. And one way they accomplished this was with their Recruit Mentoring Academy, which is the only one of its kind in North America!

When reviewing stats on where the world is at with gender parity, we can see that no single society has achieved total equality between women and men. And although, women are increasingly entering the workforce, gender inequality still exists. It exists in our pay, in leadership positions, funding for new ventures, and mentoring opportunities.

My guest today, Christine Channer Auguste, is all too familiar with gender and racial inequities. In spite of those challenges, Christine has achieved over 15 years of success in a variety of industries. Christine shares her experiencers in the corporate world and what led her to move from employee to CEO. Christine’s resilience, belief in herself and ability to pivot, will be inspirational to both women and men alike.
