What are you really trusting in? Matthew 6:19-34 challenges us to examine where our true security lies, covering four key areas: treasure, perspective, masters, and worry. Jesus makes clear that earthly wealth is temporary and vulnerable, while treasure invested in God's kingdom lasts forever. He warns that no one can serve both God and money, because divided loyalty is not loyalty at all. It is possible to do the right thing for the completely wrong reason. In Matthew 6, Jesus walks His followers through three everyday acts of faith: giving, praying, and fasting. In each one, He is not questioning the action itself but the motive behind it. The Pharisees gave, prayed, and fasted publicly to earn the praise of people, and Jesus says that praise was the only reward they received. When we live for the approval of others, we trade something eternal for something temporary. The Father sees everything done in secret, and His approval is worth far more than any recognition people can offer. The real question is not what we are doing for God, but who we are truly doing it for.

God is not satisfied with outward obedience alone. He desires inward transformation. In Matthew 5, Jesus makes clear that every outward sin begins as an inward heart issue. The Pharisees focused on external behavior and appearances, but Jesus calls us to a completely different kind of righteousness, one that starts deep within. He fulfilled the law not to abolish it, but to bring it to its full and intended purpose. True righteousness is not about managing behavior from the outside. It is about allowing Christ to transform the heart from within. When the heart truly changes, everything else begins to follow.

Jesus declared His followers to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, not as a goal to reach but as an identity already given. Salt works because it is different from everything around it, and Christians influence the world in the same way. Just as salt preserves and slows decay, believers are placed by God in specific places to slow the moral and spiritual decay around them. Light does not negotiate with darkness; it simply overcomes it. Christians do not generate their own light but reflect the light of Christ outward so others can be drawn to Him. The ultimate goal is not personal recognition but that others would see good works and glorify God. Every believer is sent into a specific sphere of influence, and the people around them may never open a Bible but are watching how they live. The question is not whether you are salt and light, but whether you are letting it show.

Most of us picture a blessed life as one filled with health, success, and comfort. But in Matthew 5, Jesus completely redefines what it means to be blessed. He describes blessing not as something you accumulate, but as something you become through humility, mourning over sin, meekness, and a hunger for righteousness. He also calls His followers to be merciful, pure in heart, and peacemakers, even when it costs them something. Following Jesus does not guarantee an easy life. It guarantees a transformed one. The goal is not to be accepted by the culture but to be faithful to Christ, because the character He forms in you will last far longer than anything this world offers.

Before God is concerned with what He wants to do through you, He is deeply concerned about who He is making you into. Psalm 101 opens with King David asking not what kind of kingdom he wanted to build, but what kind of man he needed to become. That same question belongs to every follower of Christ. A life that reflects God begins with worship, grows through personal holiness, and is shaped by the relationships we choose. Jesus lived the perfect life David longed to live, and through Him, God does not simply forgive those who fall short. He begins transforming them into the very people Psalm 101 describes.

It is easy to focus on today's worries while forgetting yesterday's blessings. In Psalm 103, David preaches directly to himself, commanding his own soul to remember the goodness of God. Remembering is not just a sentimental exercise but a spiritual discipline that strengthens faith, deepens worship, and shifts perspective. God does not simply forgive partially. He forgives completely, removing sin as far as the east is from the west. He also heals, redeems, crowns, satisfies, and renews those who trust in Him. His mercy is not occasional. It flows from who He is at His very core. Because God knows our weaknesses and loves us anyway, we can trust His hand even when circumstances feel unstable. A heart that remembers God's goodness cannot help but worship Him and invite others to do the same.
