In this episode of TIPS, host Julia Vellucci explores international student safety, rights and access to resources as students prepare for a new school year. Julia is joined by Sweta Thakur, Advisor, Policy, Research and Evaluation with Peel Newcomer Strategy Group and Liz Estey from the Region of Peel, who has been involved with the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and International Students Collaborative.Together, they discuss some of the challenges international students may face when navigating a new country, including housing, employment, fraud, access to services and knowing where to turn for support. They also explore the importance of education, prevention, collaboration and community connections in helping international students feel informed, supported and safe. As students prepare to return to school, this episode highlights why knowing your rights, understanding available resources and building strong community connections can be an important part of staying safe.
