The Sustainable Foundations Podcast is a Christian business podcast for women entrepreneurs who want to build healthy, sustainable businesses with strong foundations underneath their growth. Hosted by Ashleigh Foy, Business Operations Consultant and founder of Sustainable Foundations, the podcast explores the principles, decisions, systems, and structures that shape the businesses we're building—and what it looks like to approach all of it through the lens of faith and stewardship. Because business has changed. We have more tools, technology, information, and access than ever before. We can automate entire processes, reach thousands of people from our phones, build businesses from our kitchen tables, and use AI to accomplish in minutes what once took hours. But having better tools doesn't necessarily mean we're building better businesses. Somewhere along the way, we've gotten really good at teaching entrepreneurs how to get more clients, grow an audience, launch an offer, automate a workflow, and scale. But we've spent far less time talking about the fundamentals underneath all of it. What actually makes a business work well? Why do some businesses become stronger as they grow while others become increasingly fragile? What can technology support—and what can it never replace? What have we gained as entrepreneurship has evolved, and what important principles have we unintentionally left behind? And as Christian business owners, what does it look like to build with wisdom, steward what we've been entrusted with, and make decisions about our businesses with God at the center of them? Those are the conversations we're having here. Each week, we'll explore business operations, systems and processes, client experience, technology and AI, capacity, leadership, decision-making, sustainable growth, and the timeless business principles underneath the modern tools we use every day. You'll also hear conversations with experts from across the business ecosystem as we examine how their industries have changed, where they see business owners skipping important fundamentals, and what we need to understand before reaching for another strategy or tool. And sometimes, we'll pull the thread beyond business—because the way we work and the way we live aren't nearly as separate as we sometimes pretend they are. Whether you're establishing your business, navigating growth, realizing you've outgrown the way you've been operating, or simply trying to become a wiser steward of what's already in your hands, you'll find thoughtful conversations that help you step back, see your business differently, and ask better questions about what you're building next. If you've ever wondered: - Why does my business feel harder to run as it grows? - What does my business actually need next? - Am I solving the right problem—or just adding another tool? - What fundamentals might I have skipped along the way? - How do I use technology and AI without allowing them to replace strategy, wisdom, or human connection? - What does it look like to build and operate a business with faith and stewardship at its foundation? You're in the right place. This isn't a podcast about rejecting what's new. It's about understanding what has always mattered so we can use what's new wisely. Timeless principles. Modern tools. Sustainable businesses. Join Ashleigh each week as we ask better questions, return to the fundamentals, and build businesses strong enough to carry whatever comes next.2023-2025 キリスト教 スピリチュアリティ マネジメント・リーダーシップ リーダーシップ 経済学 聖職・福音主義

  • 5 | Marketing: How Strategy, Content, and Funnels Actually Work Together
    2026/09/11
Marketing strategy. Marketing plans. Funnels. Content. Email. SEO. Instagram. Repurposing. If you've spent years hearing all of these terms and collecting advice about what you should be doing—but still aren't entirely sure how the pieces fit together—you're not alone. For a long time, I thought getting better at Marketing meant getting better at the individual pieces. I learned Instagram strategies, tried to understand the difference between a Marketing strategy and a Marketing plan, and worked hard to consistently implement what I was learning. What finally made Marketing feel less complicated wasn't another strategy. It was understanding the system. In this episode of Sustainable Foundations, we're zooming out to look at what Marketing is actually responsible for in your business—and why the different pieces of your Marketing need different jobs. We'll unpack what people actually mean when they talk about top, middle, and bottom of funnel; the difference between a Marketing strategy and a Marketing plan; and why a blog post, Instagram post, email, Pinterest pin, and sales page shouldn't all be expected to accomplish the same thing. We'll also look at why advice like “turn one blog post into five Instagram posts” makes much more sense when you understand the job of the content first—and why intentional repurposing isn't simply copying the same piece of content across every platform.I also share some of my own experience with Instagram: how I spent years learning platform strategies without fully understanding where Instagram fit into Marketing as a whole, and why that made every new tactic or strategy feel more important than it necessarily was. And, of course, we'll talk about AI.Today's tools can help us research, plan, write, and execute Marketing faster than ever before. That's an incredible opportunity—but faster production doesn't automatically create better Marketing. We still need enough understanding to decide what we're trying to accomplish, what we actually need, and what job we're asking the tool to help us perform.By the end of this episode, my hope isn't that you leave with more Marketing to do.It's that you have a clearer map for evaluating the Marketing you're already doing. In this episode, you'll hear about:Why Marketing starts with your business FoundationMarketing strategy vs. Marketing plan—and why the distinction mattersWhat top, middle, and bottom of funnel are actually trying to describeWhy the customer journey isn't one neat, linear funnelHow different Marketing channels and content pieces can perform different jobsA tangible example of one idea moving through different parts of a Marketing systemWhy “one blog post becomes five Instagram posts” can be useful advice—but often lacks important contextHow understanding a platform's job can make Marketing decisions less overwhelmingWhat my experience with Instagram taught me about learning a platform versus understanding MarketingHow AI can close knowledge gaps and make sophisticated Marketing support more accessibleWhy producing more Marketing content isn't necessarily the same as building a better Marketing systemA simple exercise for mapping the Marketing you already have before adding anything newYour takeawayBefore you add another platform, tactic, content type, or strategy, map what you already have.Write down the pieces you're currently using to help people find and understand your business. Then ask one question about each:What job does this have in my Marketing? From there, zoom out:How are the right people finding you?Where can they go to understand the problem and your thinking more deeply? How are you continuing the relationship? And when someone is ready to explore working with you, where do they go and what happens next? You're not trying to create the perfect funnel. You're looking for the flow.Because the goal of understanding your Marketing isn't to find more Marketing to do.It's to make better decisions about the Marketing you're already doing—and what, if anything, you actually need next.New Here? • 4 | Your Business Has Grown. Is It Time to Revisit Your Business Foundation?
    2026/09/04

When was the last time you stepped back and asked what business you’re actually building?

As your business grows, it’s easy to focus on the next offer, marketing strategy, hire, system, pricing change, or new tool without revisiting the foundational decisions those choices are built on.

But your business has taught you a lot since you first answered questions like: Who do I serve? What do they need? What am I offering? How does this business make money? And where am I actually trying to take it?

In this episode of Sustainable Foundations, Ashleigh shares why she no longer sees these foundational business questions as startup exercises you complete once and move on from.

After eight years in business, multiple evolutions of her offers, two international moves in eight months, and more ideal-client worksheets than she cares to count, she’s realizing something important: getting the same answer doesn’t mean the exercise was pointless.

Sometimes you’re seeing the same client with greater clarity.

Sometimes experience has deepened your understanding of the problem you solve.

And sometimes what you’ve learned means an offer, business model, marketing decision, or other part of the business really does need to change.

    In this episode, we’ll untangle:

    • Why your business foundation should be revisited as your business grows
    • Why “Who is your ideal client?” isn’t nearly as basic a question as it sounds
    • How Ashleigh’s ideal client became clearer as she watched clients move through different stages of business growth
    • What hitting a revenue goal taught her about the difference between a business model that works on paper and one that works operationally
    • Why revisiting your foundation doesn’t mean starting your business over
    • How foundational clarity creates useful constraints for decisions about offers, marketing, systems, branding, hiring, AI, and growth
    • The difference between confirming an existing answer, deepening your understanding, and actually changing direction
    • When to revisit your business foundation—and why Ashleigh recommends making it part of your annual business review

The goal isn’t to reinvent your business every year.

It’s to bring everything your business has taught you back to the questions that guide it.

    As you listen, consider:

What do I know now that I didn’t know the last time I answered these questions?

    And:

Given what I know now, is the business I’m building still pointing toward the business I actually want to lead?

Because your foundation doesn’t sit at the beginning because you finish it first.

It sits at the center because everything else takes direction from it.

  • 3 | The Anatomy of a Sustainable Business: How the Parts of Your Business Work Together
    2026/08/30

When something isn't working in your business, it's easy to assume you know what you need.

Sales are down, so you need more leads.

You're at capacity, so you need to hire.

You know you should raise your prices, but you don't feel confident enough to do it.

But what if the thing you think you need is actually your interpretation of what you're experiencing—not the diagnosis?

That's why we need to understand the anatomy of the business.

In this episode, we're looking beyond individual areas like marketing, sales, delivery, operations, and finance to understand how those parts work together—and what happens when they don't.

We'll talk about why a business can look successful from the outside while becoming harder to operate behind the scenes, including what I call the Jekyll and Hyde syndrome: when we've put enormous effort into marketing and selling an offer without giving the same intentional attention to how the business will actually deliver it.

We'll also explore the difference between a business that works and one that has been intentionally designed to keep working as it grows and changes.

    You'll learn why:

    • proving people want your offer isn't the same as designing a business that can sustainably deliver it
    • the way your business operates may have been built one client, workaround, tool, and exception at a time
    • a pricing problem may actually be an operations problem
    • strong client experience can still be fragile when the founder is personally holding everything together
    • revenue, capacity, founder dependence, and client experience can give you clues about what's happening underneath the surface
    • “I need more leads” may—or may not—actually be a marketing problem

The goal isn't to make you an expert in every part of your business.

It's to understand your business well enough to stop letting the symptom choose the solution.

I've created a visual map to help you see the major parts of your business and how they connect.

Use it the next time something isn't working to ask:

    Where should I look?

    What else does this touch?

    How should this actually work?
