We all carry a past, hold onto things, and sometimes hide wounds that still need healing. God doesn't want us trapped by what happened yesterday or controlled by what we're carrying today; He wants to bring healing, freedom, and transformation. Sometimes we need to face what is behind us, release what we're holding, and bring what hurts into the light. Our past may be part of our story, but it doesn't get to write our future. God is calling us forward into what He has next.

The cross is more than a symbol of death—it is the promise of new life. But new life first requires death: the old self must be laid down, for we are not meant to carry what Christ has already carried. From there, new life requires formation—we are transformed as we behold Jesus, whose cross has never pointed to us, only to Him, resurrecting even the parts of us we thought were gone for good. And finally, new life requires us to carry it forward, bringing the heart of the Father, the attitude of Christ, and the fruit of the Spirit to a world still waiting to be reconciled to God.

Psalm 22 takes us prophetically to the foot of the cross, revealing the abandonment Jesus experienced, the anguish He endured, and ultimately the victory He accomplished. What begins with the cry, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" ends with the declaration, "He has done it!" Jesus entered our suffering, carried our sin, defeated the enemy, and opened the way for us to become part of His family. The cross is not the story of Jesus losing, it is the achievement of God. It is finished.

Jesus didn't just go to the cross so we could be saved from our sin—He went to the cross so we could learn to follow Him. Discipleship is more than knowing about Jesus; it is getting close enough to Jesus that His character begins to shape our lives. The closer we walk with our Rabbi, the more His love, humility, compassion, holiness, and obedience should become visible in us. The cross invites us to surrender our own way, take up our cross, and follow Jesus wherever He leads. And the invitation is still the same today: "Follow Me."

The cross is not merely the place where Jesus died, it is the center of God's redemptive story and the greatest demonstration of His love. Through Psalm 22, written a thousand years before Christ's crucifixion, we see a prophetic picture of Jesus becoming the Sin-Bearer as He cried, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" In that moment, Jesus experienced the abandonment our sin deserved so that we could receive the acceptance, forgiveness, and righteousness we could never earn. The wonder of the cross is that Christ took our judgment upon Himself, making a way for every broken, guilty, and repentant person to come boldly to the Father by grace alone.

The cross is more than the place where Jesus died for us, it is the way we are invited to follow Him. His cross is calling us to lay down what we thought would give us significance so that Christ can transform us from the inside out. As we surrender our appetites, our shame, and our earthly thinking, the cross becomes the place where God's power reshapes our hearts, renews our minds, and teaches us that obedience leads us beyond our own ability into the faithfulness of God.

The Christian life is not learning to love more…it is becoming so convinced of God's love that love becomes your natural response. Everything in Scripture hangs on love, not as another command, but as the foundation for every command. Yet so many of us live with a gap between knowing God loves us and actually living like we're deeply loved. As we become rooted in the Father's love, our identity is no longer shaped by the opinions of others but by His unchanging affection. From that place, our responses begin to reflect the heart of Christ. When you know whose you are, you'll finally know who you are, and the world around you will experience the love of Christ through you.
