This past weekend, Pastor Eric D. Shin of New Life Fellowship Church in Houston, TX came down to sunny Southern California to bless us with God's Word on finishing our lives well as servants who devote their lives glorifying the Kingdom of God. This week, Pastor Tim refers to a passage within Luke 5 where he eats with the tax collectors, one of them notably known as Levi, which is the Hebrew name for the author of the first Gospel Matthew. The Pharisees, who hated the tax collectors like Matthew, questions Jesus as to why he is eating with those types of people, and the answer was plain simple: Jesus ate with the sinners. He chose to provide life for them, and for us.

We continue in Luke 5 as we listen to the passage of the paralyzed man being healed by Jesus, all of which was assisted by the paralyzed man's friends who helped him get brought down so that he can approach Jesus. This is a passage where we're able to realize that despite our struggles and sins, this race was never meant to be run alone but rather with those around us--on top of that, God's desire to save us is so much greater from our desire to be saved, so we hope this is an encouragement for all those who are fighting their spiritual battles at this moment.

As with the other Gospels, Luke also recounts the story of the leper whom Jesus healed when he approached him. In Jewish historical context, lepers were exiled into their own designated camps and yet the faith that the leper had a about Jesus being the healer and the risk he took to see him within the city, where he was banned from being in, was more than enough proof for the Son to heal his leprosy. In the end, we are all like the leper ourselves going through the process of forgiveness that Christ provides--and yet, he spends solitude with God through all this, not drawing the attention to him but to the Father.
