Do you ever feel like you're always celebrating everyone else, but when it's your turn, the same energy never comes back?
In this episode of Human(ing) Well, Amber Cabral explores a conversation that resonates deeply with many single professionals, entrepreneurs, and high achievers: what happens when your biggest life milestones don't fit society's traditional celebrations? Inspired by a social media post about the experience of being "the single friend," Amber challenges the belief that being unmarried or child-free automatically means living a less celebrated life.
Instead of waiting for weddings, baby showers, or other cultural milestones to validate our accomplishments, Amber offers a different perspective: create the rituals you wish existed. Whether you've started a business, earned a promotion, bought your first home, published a book, or simply become the person you've worked hard to become, your wins deserve to be celebrated too.
Amber also shares practical ways to build a community that celebrates your growth instead of leaving it unnoticed. Here are a few things you can do:
- Pick one win from the last year you never let anyone celebrate, and plan a celebration for it.
- Quick friendship audit: who celebrates you well, who mostly receives your celebration? Put your energy where it goes both ways.
- Be the initiator once this month. When people are in town, be the one who books the table, for example.
- Celebrate someone specifically this week. Name the actual accomplishment, not a generic "proud of you."
