The most memorable compliment I have heard after church was also the funniest: someone said it was the best sermon I have preached, and it happened to be the shortest. That quick moment opens up something serious. When life is heavy, phrases like “just keep praying” can feel like a shrug. But with time, I start to realize those words are often spoken by people who have watched God stay faithful through decades of real trouble.

We turn to Psalm 119:97-112 and sit with how the psalmist talks about Scripture. He doesn’t treat God’s Word like background noise. He meditates on it, returns to it, and finds it wiser than enemies, steadier than temptation, and sweeter than honey. The line “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” isn’t a cliché here. It’s a survival strategy for a person living with affliction, pressure, and threats, and still choosing trust.

Then we get painfully practical about modern discipleship: distraction, doomscrolling, nonstop negativity, and the way our phones steal attention from both people and prayer. We also challenge the habit of outsourcing our faith to influencers, YouTube sermons, and even good Christian books. Helpful resources matter, but they can’t replace opening the Bible for ourselves, and the “9% read daily” statistic should stop us in our tracks.

If you’ve felt spiritually dry, stuck, or overwhelmed, listen through to the end and take the weekly challenge with us: pay attention to what you’re consuming, then make room for Scripture again. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a reset, and leave a review with the biggest distraction you’re ready to change.
