The idea is that a Mitzvah is not merely a symbol pointing toward some deeper spiritual truth. The act itself is the encounter.
We often ask, “What does the Lulav symbolize? What does the Esrog represent?” Those questions can be meaningful, but they can also subtly turn the Mitzvah into a metaphor for something else. Judaism asks us to go further: to take the Lulav, hold the Esrog, move the body, and enter the Mitzvah physically.
The meaning is not only something we understand. It is something we do. The physical act itself awakens, shapes, and connects us. The deepest truth of the Lulav and Esrog is therefore not hidden behind the objects. It is experienced through them.
