Working longer hours does not always mean making more progress.
In this episode of the Legal Edge Coaching Podcast, Shane Smith and Trevor White continue their discussion around The Invisible Ceiling and break down one of the biggest traps law firm owners face: confusing being busy with being productive.
Many attorneys build their firms by doing everything themselves. They take every important call, solve every problem, make every decision, and become the person everyone depends on. That approach may help build the business in the beginning, but eventually it can become the very thing preventing the firm from growing.
Shane shares lessons from building his own law firm and reaching the point where earning more money did not necessarily create more freedom. Trevor discusses what he sees while coaching attorneys who have built successful firms but still feel trapped by the businesses they created.
They explore why high-performing attorneys often struggle to delegate, why being needed can become addictive, and how ego can sometimes disguise itself as leadership. They also discuss the difficult transition from being the person who gets everything done to becoming the leader who builds the people, systems, and structure that allow the business to operate without them.
Sometimes growth requires giving up work you know you can do better so someone else can learn to do it well enough.
If you are constantly putting out fires, working longer hours, solving everyone else's problems, or wondering why your success has not created the freedom you expected, this episode will challenge the way you think about productivity, leadership, delegation, and law firm growth.
This episode continues the Legal Edge Coaching Podcast conversation around The Invisible Ceiling and what it takes to build a law firm that grows beyond the owner.
