Spiritual burnout is a real danger for those in ministry, and it often comes from serving others without staying personally filled. The Parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25 makes it clear that oil, representing intimacy with the Holy Spirit, cannot be borrowed from someone else. You can adopt another leader's strategy or borrow a set of sermon notes, but you cannot borrow another person's prayer life or their history with God. Jesus warned in Matthew 7 that it is possible to do great things in His name while missing genuine relationship with Him entirely. Paul himself acknowledged the risk of becoming disqualified after preaching to others. The solution is not to stop serving but to serve from a place of fullness rather than depletion. Practical habits like consistent prayer, time in Scripture, and genuine rest are what keep the oil flowing. Stay full, stay ready, and make sure your lamp is burning bright when the Bridegroom arrives.
