This podcast shares sermons from St Andrew’s in the Grange, Church of Scotland, in Guernsey. We are an open, inclusive, and questioning church, rooted in the Reformed tradition and shaped by a commitment to thoughtful faith, hospitality, and justice. Our sermons are usually drawn from our weekly worship and engage Scripture with honesty and care, taking both faith and doubt seriously. We believe church should be a place where people are welcomed as they are, questions are encouraged, and the Christian story is explored in ways that connect with real life.Justin Taylor キリスト教 スピリチュアリティ 聖職・福音主義

Welcome to the sermon podcast from St Andrew’s in the Grange, Guernsey.

We are a Church of Scotland congregation seeking to be a warm, inclusive, and thoughtful Christian community at the heart of Guernsey. Whether you are full of faith, full of questions, returning to church, or wondering whether church could ever be a place for you, you are very welcome here.

This sermon was preached on Sunday 5 July 2026 and is based on Ruth 4:1–22.

In the final chapter of Ruth, we hear a story of redemption, belonging, and unexpected grace. Ruth, the outsider from Moab, is welcomed into the story of God’s people. Naomi, who began the story grieving and empty, is held by a community that helps her see life beginning again.

The chapter ends with a genealogy, reminding us that God’s story is often carried forward through those the world overlooks, judges, or calls unholy. Ruth becomes the great-grandmother of King David, and through this family line we are led towards Jesus.

At St Andrew’s, we believe that grace is wider than we imagine, and that God is always at work in unexpected people and unexpected places.

Welcome to the St Andrew’s in the Grange sermon podcast from Guernsey.

This sermon was preached on Sunday, 21 June 2026, and is based on Ruth 3:1–18.

Ruth’s encounter with Boaz at the threshing floor is a story filled with risk, vulnerability and sexual tension. Naomi’s plan places Ruth in a precarious position, where she could easily have been exploited by someone with greater social and economic power.

This sermon explores the difficult questions within the passage rather than trying to sanitise it. What does the story reveal about consent, dignity and the responsible use of power? In a moment of vulnerability, Boaz chooses not to take advantage of Ruth, but to treat her with respect and seek her security.

    Reading: Ruth 3:1–18

In this sermon from St Andrew's in the Grange, Guernsey, Rev Justin Taylor continues our series on the book of Ruth.

Ruth is a foreigner, a widow, and someone living on the margins of society. As she goes out to glean in the fields to provide for herself and Naomi, she encounters Boaz, a man whose kindness and generosity begin to change the course of her story.

This passage invites us to reflect on welcome, compassion, and the ways God often works through ordinary people and seemingly chance encounters. It challenges us to consider how we treat those who are different from us and what it means to create communities where people can flourish.

The book of Ruth reminds us that God's grace is often found in unexpected places and that small acts of kindness can have a profound impact on the lives of others.
