Episode 9 brings together two distinctive Nova Scotia songwriters whose work spans alternative, folk, rock, country, and acoustic traditions.

Hunter Bushell, a singer-songwriter from Canada Creek, Nova Scotia, blends the grit of 1990s grunge with the raw intimacy of acoustic alt-folk. Known for his raspy vocal delivery and emotionally grounded songwriting, Bushell's music is rooted in honesty, lived experience, and a strong sense of place. Inspired by rural Nova Scotia and a passion for stripped-back performance, he continues to emerge as a compelling voice within the region's independent music scene.

Steven Travis Auld is a proud Pictou County singer-songwriter whose rock, country, and folk influences have made him a familiar presence on local stages for more than a decade. He has performed at festivals including Giantstock and The Jubilee while appearing in venues throughout the county and beyond. Alongside his solo work, Steven has been a key member of several acts, including Grooveback and Trilogy, reflecting his deep roots in Pictou County's creative community and long-standing commitment to local music.

Together, Hunter and Steven create an afternoon of storytelling, shared experiences, and acoustic-driven performances. Drawing from different musical backgrounds but a common appreciation for authentic songwriting, the two artists explore themes of place, personal growth, resilience, and everyday life through songs and conversation.

About This Episode

Episode 8 features two exceptional voices from Atlantic Canada whose music reflects personal experience, artistic growth, and a deep commitment to authentic storytelling.

Ella Gunning Parker is a Halifax-based singer-songwriter and composer whose talent has already earned national recognition at a young age. A two-time semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition's Teen Category (2023 and 2024), Ella has also achieved two #1 songs on the CIOE East Coast Top 30 and was awarded the 2025 Youth Musician Commission through Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall's Youth Composition Competition. Her songwriting pairs thoughtful lyricism with compelling melodies, showcasing a remarkably mature artistic perspective.

ADINA is an R&B/Folk artist from North Preston whose soulful vocals and heartfelt performances are rooted in a Country and Gospel upbringing. She is the recipient of the ANSMA Portia White Youth Award (2021) and the Creative Nova Scotia Portia White Protégé Award (2022). Her growing performance résumé includes appearances at Nova Scotia Music Week, Halifax Jazz Festival, Crescendo Festival, ANSMA showcases, and international performances at Cuba's Romerias de Mayo Festival. ADINA's music blends folk, R&B, and gospel influences into songs marked by warmth, sincerity, and emotional depth.

Together, Ella and ADINA create a songwriter-circle experience defined by vulnerability, creativity, and genuine connection. Through performances and conversation, they explore themes of identity, family, growth, and artistic beginnings while sharing original music that highlights the diversity and strength of Atlantic Canada's emerging music community.

Her performances balance powerful fiddle playing with thoughtful songwriting, blending traditional influences with a fresh contemporary perspective.
