I spent months building content around a specific project, with five editors putting in full days for more than three months, only to have something outside our control suddenly change everything. It sucked, but it reminded me of one of the most important lessons I’ve learned from years of working in content creation and media: your content strategy is never sacred.

When a plan falls apart, you have two choices. You can stay emotionally attached to what was supposed to happen, or you can pivot. For me, that means looking at what footage can still be reused, what ideas can be repurposed, what needs to be reshot, and whether the setback could actually lead us toward something better than the original plan.

The strategy can change without the mission changing. Content is just a tool for reaching a larger goal, and sometimes the best content strategy is knowing when to stop forcing the original plan and move in a completely new direction.

Have you ever had a project completely fall apart, only for the pivot to lead you somewhere better?
