Some forms of manipulation do not push you towards a particular choice. They make every available choice feel unsafe.

In this episode of Somatic Inversions - Arc Three, we explore paralysis framing: how double-binds, no-win scenarios and conflicting demands can overload decision-making and weaken a person’s sense of agency.

Drawing on decision neuroscience, trauma responses and research into coercive dynamics, we look at what happens when every option appears to carry punishment, rejection or loss. Under enough pressure, the nervous system may shift towards freeze, appeasement or shutdown simply to reduce the immediate threat.

Across relationships, families, workplaces and wider systems of influence, impossible choices can become a form of behavioural control because they make independent action feel increasingly costly.

This episode reframes paralysis not simply as indecision, but as a possible response to an environment in which no available option feels genuinely safe.

Sometimes the trap is not which choice you make. The trap is being convinced that there was never a safe choice to begin with.
