  • We Haven't Mastered Anything | SoberNotSober Ep.50
    2026/09/02

It's the big 5-0 and we're celebrating with golden snitch cookies, tequila, and absolutely zero composure. Grant and Mekaylay kick things off debating pre-gaming culture before diving into the legendary story of Sheldon — the most polite man on the phone who turned out to be a 6'5" Nigerian bodybuilder who benches 350 for fun. Mekaylay shares a dream he had about Grant showing up to the pod in full drag, Grant confesses to having two laundry baskets in his bedroom, and Mekaylay recounts the time his dad ripped a dab pen in a crowded restaurant and got thanked for his military service (he never served).

Then things get philosophical with a new segment: Masters of Craft. The boys debate who the true GOATs are across music, film, YouTube, and beyond — from Michael Jackson and Ozzy Osbourne to Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Lady Gaga, Donald Glover, and MrBeast's terrifying thumbnail empire. Plus: Grant goes on an Arsenal rant, Danny Worsnop's screamo Grinch cover gets its flowers, and the episode somehow ends with a passionate case for orca conservation and Mexican gray wolf rehabilitation.

Shouts out Sheldon. Shouts out Hispanic wolves. Say the R word with your friends or don't we really don't care.

  • Consider Getting A Mother | SoberNotSober Ep.49
    2026/08/26

Grant and Mekaylay are back with a sprawling episode that somehow connects Rascal Flatts Halloween costumes to the meaning of life. The duo debates the hierarchy of light beers (Miller Lite vs. Coors Banquet vs. Dos Equis), discovers that Harley has never had blood drawn, and Grant shares a traumatic childhood story about a Ciprodex allergy that turned his ear into a golf ball at Boys & Girls Club. Mekaylay reveals his own baby-era allergy to Augmentin before open-heart surgery — which Grant helpfully compares to a chemical from The Boys.

Grant pours an Emil Beyer Grand Cru Riesling from Alsace, France and gives full sommelier tasting notes (petrol, peach, gooseberry, limestone) while Mekaylay gives a beautiful break down of his Hawaiian Shaved Ice energy drink. The two then build increasingly unhinged "death row breakfast" orders — Grant's involves a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel, three pancakes, home-style potatoes, and a side omelet — before spiraling into nostalgia over Toaster Scrambles, Jimmy Dean pancake-wrapped sausages, and the McDonald's Big Mac Bundle Box.

The conversation shifts to what they do to unwind: Grant drums to Tool and Sleep Token, sings full-throated in his car for two hours a day, plays Black Myth: Wukong, and rewatches the entire Harry Potter series every winter. Mekaylay recommends the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown and makes the case for Nintendo Switch immersion as therapy. A Wii Sports session leads Grant to the realization that he can look like 500 different archetypes of white dude — a claim backed up by comparisons to Adam Driver, Chris Evans, young Nic Cage, and "white Childish Gambino."

Things get real when the conversation turns to stress, mental health, and what it means to "lock in." Mekaylay and Harley describe a life of constant readiness shaped by family health crises and adult responsibilities, while Grant opens up about his own anxiety spiral, reading Taoism, and trying to move his emotional baseline from negative to neutral. The episode closes with potential new podcast taglines, a Patreon book club idea, a plea for listener scary stories, and the email: sobernotsober69@gmail.com.

  • Doing Our Best With The Tools We Have | SoberNotSober Ep.48
    2026/08/19

Grant kicks things off with a controversial confession that rocks the anime world — Fullmetal Alchemist is officially a 10, not a 9.4. From there, the boys pour into a deep dive on New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (Saint Clair, Marlborough, $20, way better than Kim Crawford), the difference between bourbon and whiskey, and why Grant's stomach can't handle corn-based spirits. Mekaylay brings his "movie of the summer" pick — Minions and Monsters — which turns out to be a plot-heavy gay love story between two minions named James and Henry, set in Hollywood, with zero comprehensible dialogue. It's somehow art.

Grant shares a wild encounter with a urologist at a wine tasting who casually mentions he's seen 50 you know what's a week, complains about getting picked up in a Cybertruck, and offers unsolicited opinions on yoga pants. Meanwhile, Grant's apartment hunt is humbling him in real time — $35/month parking, $50/month cat fees, and valet trash you didn't ask for. He's also doing laundry on a geological timescale and wearing his long gone grandma's... something.

The conversation gets real as the guys dig into healthy habits, screen time, and whether audiobooks count as reading (they don't, but they're fine). Grant rants about AI — the water waste, the slop albums (Tyga, we're looking at you), and why Auto-Tune comparisons don't hold up. Mekaylay opens up about his sobriety journey, his complicated relationship with AA, and why being told he's a piece of poo 24/7 might actually push him toward relapse rather than away from it.

Plus: five cavities and $1,300 at the dentist, the Chris Watts case and his new "wife," and a call to build something real. Like, comment, subscribe — Grant may or may not show his nips next week
