Practically Magick: Sin and Repentance Beyond Rigid Religion
What does sin actually mean? And what happens when you leave a structured religious tradition and have to define it for yourself?
Courtney explores the etymology of sin, from its proto-Germanic roots meaning "guilty" to the Hebrew concept of "missing the mark", and how that ancient language opens a completely different conversation about morality, shame, and what it means to return to your highest self.
Drawing from the Gnostic Gospels, Buddhist philosophy, and her own deconstruction journey out of Mormonism, Courtney reframes repentance not as ritual confession or shame-based control, but as a simple return. A turning around. An alignment with the frequencies of love, compassion, and authenticity that resonate at the highest levels of being.
She discusses how judgment and curiosity operate differently in the nervous system, why shame is the lowest frequency humans can experience, and how the work of healing, whether through energy work, therapy, or creative practice, is really just the practice of noticing when you've drifted off course and choosing to come back.
The episode opens with a King of Pentacles card pull and weaves together mythology, neuroscience, parenting psychology, and the Tetris game as metaphor for how we navigate the blocks life sends us.
