  • Battling Self-Reliance in Motherhood
    2026/09/02

What happens when motherhood finally brings you face-to-face with the reality that you can't do it all?

In this episode, we're talking honestly about self-reliance --one of those struggles that can look like strength, responsibility or productivity on the outside, but can quietly become a way of depending on ourselves instead of God.

We share some of the moments in motherhood that brought each of us to the end of ourselves and exposed just how much we wanted to be the mom who could handle everything. But what if realizing we're not enough isn't failure at all? What if its actually the invitation to experience the sufficiency of Christ?

Through scripture we look at what it means to stop digging from our own empty wells, remain connected to Jesus, and embrace the kind of dependence that our culture often tells us to avoid.

Because the goal was never to become the mom who doesn't need anything. The goal is to become a mom who knows exactly where to go with her need.

    What you'll learn....

    • Why self-sufficiency is more than a productivity problem-- it can become a worship problem
    • What Jesus/ conversation with the Samaritan women teaches us about our need for living water
    • How motherhood can expose the places where we've been depending on ourselves
    • How prayerlessness can reveal areas where we're relying on ourselves instead of God
    • Why dependence on Christ has to be a daily, repeated choice
    • What Jesus means when he says "apart from me you can do nothing"
    • How motherhood culture can celebrate independence while scripture calls us to dependence
    • Why needing christ and the community he provides is not weakness
    • How asking your husband, children, friends for help can challenge the desire for control
    • Why weakness can become a place where God's power and glory are displayed
    • How we can model dependence on Jesus for our children instead of giving them the impression that we have it all together

    Scripture referenced....

    John 4

    Mark 9

    John 15:5

    2 Cor 12:9-10

    Philippians 4

  • Our 50th Episode: The Power of Community in Motherhood
    2026/08/19

FIFTY episodes of Silly Sheep! And what a better way to celebrate than by coming full circle?

Our very first episode was about community in motherhood-- because from the beginning, we've believed that moms were never meant to do this alone. Fifty episodes later, we're coming back to that same topic with a lot more life experience, a lot more lessons, and a deeper understanding of what it actually takes to build meaningful community.

In this episode, we talk about....

    • why loneliness isn't evidence that something is wrong with you- its evidence that you were created for relationship
    • the difference between being social and being available
    • the very real ways motherhood can become a shield that keeps us from community
    • why we have less relational capacity than we often think- and why that's actually mercy
    • Jesus' example of having different levels of relationship and access
    • why life on life community is usually much more mundane than we imagine
    • the difference between hosting and simply inviting someone into your real life
    • why you need to build community before you need it
    • the three major barriers to community: culture, lies, and pain/shame
    • how comparison and social media can make us feel connected while actually leaving us more isolated
    • why a messy house, a busy season, or waiting for "later" might be keeping us from the relationships we desperately need
    • what our kids are learning about relationships by watching whether we open our doors and let people into our lives

Because community isn't simply a personality trait or something that happens naturally for the most outgoing among us. Community is a discipline. Hebrews 10 calls us to consider one another, spur one another on, meet together, and encourage one another-- and every one of those things requires action.

*Community won't fix every lonely afternoon. It won't mean people never disappoint you. and it certainly doesn't replace our need for Christ.

BUT sheep were never meant to be alone.

And that was true in episode 1.

It's even truer fifty episodes in!
