概要
Darkness, a dry plastic bag wedged in a tree, and forty-one handwritten pages that began with four quiet words: I am going to get out. Donna Padgett mapped trains, whistles, and a crossing signal inside a windowless storage unit to locate the industrial district that might lead to her freedom - but who put her there and how did her map become the key evidence?
In this episode, we follow the timeline from the last confirmed sighting at 6:43 p.m. to the discovery of Donna’s pages five days later, laying out what she recorded in the storage unit and the clues she used to triangulate her location. Can a billing coordinator’s careful notes and a runner’s photograph uncover where she was held and who was responsible?
Person: Donna Padgett
Date: May 9, 2017
Location: Kellner Street underpass / Meridian Avenue area
Event: Missing person then found writings from captivity
Finder: Donald Larsen
- Last confirmed public sighting captured on gas station camera at 6:43 p.m. wearing a green jacket on Meridian Avenue.
- A single overhead light in the Kellner Street underpass had been out for three weeks before her disappearance.
- Donald Larsen discovered a doubled plastic bag in a tree on May 19, 2017 at 6:45 a.m. containing 41 handwritten pages.
- Donna recorded a low broken-pitch whistle at about 4:30 p.m. and again near 5-5:30 a.m., and an east-to-west freight train sound peaking overhead each night around 11:00 p.m.
- On page eleven she drew intersecting vectors (whistle northeast, freight east-to-west, crossing signal within ~300 feet) pointing to an industrial district with a freight spur and grade crossing.
