At 18, Christa Pike became the youngest woman sentenced to death in America. 30 years later, she’s still Tennessee’s only woman on death row — and the state has set her execution for September 30, 2026.
In this episode of the Daily Scaries True Crime Podcast, Brian Scott and Jill Egan pull back the veil on a classic case that still shocks Knoxville to this day: the 1995 Job Corps murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.
What really happened on that wooded hilltop off Moody Avenue? Why did a dispute over a boyfriend turn into a planned, brutal attack involving Christa, her 17-year-old boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp, and Shadolla Peterson? And what did investigators find in Christa’s pocket that became one of the most disturbing pieces of evidence in Tennessee history?
Brian and Jill walk through the timeline, the trial that led to a death sentence in 1996, the failed appeals, and the theories around motive, manipulation, and mental health that defense teams have argued for decades.
If the execution proceeds, Pike would be the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.
Press play for the full deep dive into the crime, the case against her, and what happens next.
