Does suffering mean God has forgotten you? Or could it actually be a sign that you are walking closely with Him? First Peter 4:12-19 addresses one of the most misunderstood realities of the Christian life, and the answer may surprise you. Peter opens with a striking word: do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes. Not if it comes. When. Suffering for the faith is not a possibility for the Christian. It is a certainty. Jesus warned His followers that the world hated Him before it hated them, and that those who follow Him closely should expect the same response. But Peter does not stop at warning.
