このコンテンツについて

I'm journalist Matt Pierce and this my podcast. It is just "$hit As I See It," and that is all it is. A podcast that covers society, culture, the arts, and anything else that I find interesting or have an opinion on. I try to keep it simple and relateable. I'm not some out of touch media personality who carries this idea that I must know more than you. I'm not policially aligned one way or the other and think they are all corrupt and out to screw us. This is a podcast where I just say what I think and let you listen in. There might not be an immediate rhyme or reason but hopefully in the end you'll find something in it. This is like a journey of a redneck Hunter S. Thompson meeting The Pope. That is kind of how I describe my personality. It isn't for everybody. It's my thoughts for people like me.

  • EP 8: Evanglical Roots and Questions
    2025/02/14
In this episode of The Matt Pierce Podcast, I take you inside my upbringing in the Southern Baptist Church, where faith was rigid, politics and religion blended seamlessly, and questioning the system was unthinkable. Influenced by voices like Rush Limbaugh, John Hagee, and Pat Robertson, I was raised in a world where evangelicalism wasn’t just a belief—it was a way of life. But as I grew older, I started seeing cracks in the foundation. I witnessed firsthand how the church shunned the different, mocked the outcasts, and wielded faith as a weapon rather than a source of love and grace. From the mistreatment of a mentally ill man to the rejection of an openly gay member of our small-town congregation, I began to realize that American evangelicalism had become more about control than compassion.I’ll take you through my journey of questioning, exploring faith beyond the walls of the Baptist Church—finding inspiration in figures like Rich Mullins, learning about Native American spirituality, and seeking deeper meaning in Catholicism and more inclusive Christian perspectives. This isn’t just a story about leaving a church—it’s about reclaiming faith from those who have turned it into a political tool. If you've ever questioned the evangelical movement or wondered what it truly means to follow Christ, this episode is for you.Tune in now for a raw, honest, and deeply personal conversation about faith, doubt, and finding God beyond the walls of evangelicalism.

Welcome to another episode of The Matt Pierce Podcast, where we break down the world in plain, unfiltered language. Today, I’m diving deep into a movement that has reshaped American culture, government, and identity—American Evangelical Christianity. And most importantly, how has it infiltrated American politics, influencing everything from education and lawmaking to the very foundation of religious freedom?Join me as I take you through the rise of Southern Baptist-led evangelicalism, the explosive Pensacola Revival, and the movement’s grip on states like Texas—where faith has become a tool for political control. If you've ever wondered whether America is still a secular democracy or if it's slowly becoming a Christian Nationalist state, this episode will give you the real, raw, and simplified breakdown you need.Tune in now—because understanding this shift is the key to seeing what’s really happening behind the curtain.
