Remember God has not given you a spirit of fear. Recognize manipulation and be assertive. Journal what you feel so it has somewhere to go. Rest — take the day off if it's too much. And forgive them, letting God be your vindicator, so your energy goes back into what you're building. What they meant for evil, God meant for good.

In Exodus 18, Moses judged every dispute among the people alone, from morning until night. His father-in-law Jethro watched him for one full day and said: "The thing that thou doest is not good... for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone" (Exodus 18:17-18). Jethro didn't tell Moses he was failing, or that the work was wrong. He said the weight was wrong. Moses was doing good, God-given work, and it was still too much, because he was carrying what was never meant to rest on one set of shoulders. Obedience and over functioning are not the same thing.

For me, the hardest part wasn't the work. It was carrying it alone. The people closest to me didn't always understand what I was building, or have the knowledge to speak into it, so the emotional support wasn't there. God didn't leave Moses alone under that weight — He sent Jethro. I didn't have a Jethro at my kitchen table, so I went looking for that kind of support on purpose, and joined a faith-based community for direction and people who understood building something with God. Needing support isn't a lack of faith. Sometimes seeking it out is the most faithful thing you can do.

Striving vs. stewardship in the building season

When you're still building on a tight budget, a lot really does still fall on you — this isn't about delegating a team you don't have. But carrying it all doesn't have to mean carrying it the hard way. If website building overwhelms you and you can't afford a designer, you might start with a simple Canva website until you grow, or find a trusted VA through a real reference for the one piece stealing your peace. Striving says I have to do all of it perfectly, by myself, or I've failed. Stewardship asks what's actually mine to carry in this season, and what's the wisest way to carry it.

A car is what we use to reach a destination — and in my own dreams, it has always represented personal ministry. A car rarely breaks down all at once. There's a noise you ignore, a light on the dash you'll deal with next week, a pull to one side you've gotten used to correcting. The car still runs, so you keep driving. When the vehicle isn't running right, that's a sign something needs checking, not pushing harder.

And Jesus said: "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful" (Luke 10:41-42). He didn't rebuke her for serving. He named what she couldn't see in herself. That's what makes this kind of burnout so hard to catch — it doesn't look like laziness. It looks like devotion.
