Jerry spontaneously lies that George became a marine biologist specializing in whale cholesterol, forcing George to maintain the elaborate fiction when his college crush calls. When a beached whale creates an actual marine biology emergency, George must attempt a rescue to preserve his fake identity. Meanwhile, Elaine embarrasses herself by repeating Jerry's joke that War and Peace was originally titled "War, What Is It Good For?" to a famous Russian writer, and Kramer's terrible golf game inadvertently creates the whale crisis when his one successful shot lodges a golf ball in the animal's blowhole.
This episode showcases the series' signature plot convergence as George's talent for confident lying collides with Kramer's incompetent enthusiasm to create an absurd but perfect resolution. You'll see how George's fake-it-till-you-make-it philosophy reaches its logical extreme when performance becomes reality, and understand why his immediate confession after achieving actual heroism represents the character's fundamental inability to accept success.
